So many secrets, so many surprises, so many turn of events. In [b:Throne of Glass|7896527|Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass, #1)|Sarah J. Maas|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1495278054l/7896527._SY75_.jpg|11138426] every character is presented as one-dimensional. In [b:Crown of Midnight|17167166|Crown of Midnight (Throne of Glass, #2)|Sarah J. Maas|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1391580481l/17167166._SY75_.jpg|21581860] we get to see more of them, even the king. We get to see the reason behind the things they do, what hurts them, what drives them and skeletons people have been hiding in their closets for *quite* some time.

This book was excellent. And not just in comparison to [b:Throne of Glass|7896527|Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass, #1)|Sarah J. Maas|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1495278054l/7896527._SY75_.jpg|11138426]. It kept me hooked, it had drama, action, romance, mystery and in my opinion, better writing. Celaena was more relatable *thank god* and I was able to empathize with her. Everything that happened with Nehemia? Heartbreaking. But I think it made our heroine little bit more human.

The book is ended in such a way that you know [b:Heir of Fire|20613470|Heir of Fire (Throne of Glass, #3)|Sarah J. Maas|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1460846511l/20613470._SY75_.jpg|25128502] is going to be the best one yet and I think these books truly only get better and better.

That said, when I was writing this review while I was reading the first part of the book, I thought Chaol was it. Now? I’m not so sure. This is why I hate love triangles. Really not for me.

If you read Throne of Glass and are just not sure if you want to give Crown of Midnight a try...this is your sign, it is better and you won’t regret it.

All I’m saying is if this is the just the SECOND BOOK I do not know if I will survive the rest of the series - also somebody save chaol and Dorian they have never been so confused in their lives lolll

Oh my gosh WHAT A book. Immediately I was on edge with Celaena being the kings champion, she’s got a line though and I was partly terrified for her this whole book - iykyk. I quite clearly could not put this down since I’ve finished it in 48 hours. It hooked me from the first sentence to the last page. And WHAT a bloody last page it was. My heart aches for Celaena and all she’s been through. What she continues to go through.
Again, the magic, it’s gone from the kingdom thanks to adarlan. Finding out snippets of more of what it was like before it was purged was super interesting and what it revealed about certain characters

A good sequel, I really felt like I was trudging through some parts but reading the other reviews it seems like that was just me? I’m looking forward to the third, which is where it REALLY gets good I’ve heard, but will probably take another small break in between this book and that one
