I’ve read we were liars and didn’t enjoy that one, but I really enjoyed this book. The two of them are night and day different. I enjoyed the story and they way it was written backwards, it really kept me wanting to know more!

WOAHHH. Okay review to come as soon as I can get my thoughts together.

This was a tough one for me. I really like E. Lockhart's books. The Ruby Oliver series is great, and I loved We Were Liars (I know it's a very love it or hate it book for people, but I'm firmly in the love camp). So, I had high hopes for Genuine Fraud, but I just didn't love it.

It's a fast, twisty read, and I raced through it, wanting to get to the end. This is basically a gender-swapped retelling of The Talented Mr. Ripley, which is good in theory, but left me feeling a little underwhelmed.

There were things I liked: the story is told in reverse chronological order, which was cool and added to the twistyness (I read this on my Kindle and I would have preferred a hard copy so I could flip back and forth to keep track of various details), and the narrator was extremely unreliable, which I always like. But overall, I think this was good but not great for me.

I went into this with too high of expectations because I love We Were Liars, and even liked the prequel.

I was very bored and thought of DNFing this many times but it was short and the description said it was a mystery and there was a twist, so I kept reading but there was no mystery or twist. Some things just didn’t make sense like Imogen’s mother meeting Julie at the benefit and thinking that she was her daughter’s friend- that’s a bit weird since it was never true. Forest believing that Imogen is alive but murders Jule and steals her identity and leaves him- he knows for a fact that Jule is alive. I didn’t understand the purpose of some of the characters showing up like Brooke and Poalo. In the end, I thought maybe it was me but it wasn’t, I felt as though I wasted my time with this one.
