you know, i always thought it was silly and reactionary for walt whitman to be fired from his government clerkship for being horny on main (in poetry) but now that i have read said poetry… let’s just say some points were made. one day i will read leaves of grass in its entirety!!!!

The greatest poem ever written. Whitman is indescribably superior to his contemporaries.

The first time in a long time that I've loved a poem this much, especially to the point where I've been unable to put it down!

It's beautifully subtle, and the language and imagery work perfectly to convey Whitman's love of the world. The central theme of what is essentially pantheism is intermingled with commentary on equality and social justice. Quietly revolutionary 👌

I have no idea what ho wanted to tell me with this poem. Or maybe I understood it but it felt too long for just an “ode to humanity”. Dunno. However, the language is easy to understand, yet beautiful.
