Very good, very steady, nicely paced. I am a little confused as to this ending matching the ending of others exactly. I have no idea what that final page meant and what actually happened.

***Some spoilers ahead!!****

It was ok. I felt Selina's reason for leaving Bruce was such a cop out for the writer. People work harder for a better world when they have people they love. Being happy wouldn't make batman stop being batman - it would make him more batman. Also, it's inconsistent. Earlier in the comic run, Selina said she'd always come second to his vow to war against crime. But now she's basically saying that's not the case. The writing is sloppy in my opinion, and doesn't reflect real life emotions.

It gets three stars because it is a interesting analysis of Batman. Wrong, but interesting.

I'm furious. Maybe a bit sad.
But that's what good writing does, doesn't it?
It makes you feel something.

Batman vol 7 is really great once you’re past the first three issues.

The first three issues are a Booster Gold storyline where he wants to get Batman and Catwoman a gift so he goes back in time and stops the Wayne’s from being murdered to show Bruce a life without Batman.

Now I read Batman as the issues come out and I wasn’t a fan of the storyline as it came out. So I thought it would be better in collected format. But I don’t like it anymore than I did when I read it every two weeks.

It’s the pacing I think, it all happens so fast that it’s hard for me to latch on because the world building is very edgy and goes by quickly. I think a better version of this can be found in Jeph Loeb’s Batman and Superman run when we see multiple alternate timelines. One of which the Wayne’s never died and Bruce didn’t become Batman. But we also have Superman stumbling around figuring it all out. There are better stories that illustrate the same point and better Booster Gold stories and this wasn’t fun enough for me to justify it.

After that however the volume picks up as Joker finds out Bat and Cat are getting married and then the big wedding issue itself. And all that stuff is good in Tom Kong’s fashion of dialogue and metaphoric double meaning. And the volume is worth reading for that.

This volume contains my least favorite part of King’s run and one of my favorite parts of King’s run. So take that as you will.

3 stars.
