Thoughtful, reflective, sad. Really perfectly captures a lot of high school feelings and worries and anxieties from the outside. Very human and full of mistakes and sadness and naive ignorance.

my heart breaks for charlie. this book was so beautiful breaking and so godamn heartbreaking because we got to see everything the way Charlie saw it. we didn't know anymore than he did. which is awful especially with everything he finds out at the end

i still haven't understood why everybody calls this a "coming-of-age story" like... did we read the same ending?

This used to be my absolutely favourite book when I was around 14 (7 years ago) so I decided to reread it (just before starting college!). I definitely liked it better back then (I think in general it appeals to a younger audience) and I still remembered the major plot lines / "twists". Besides that I still loved it, felt with the characters and felt inspired all over again.

I love the characters and the depiction of realistic relationships, the amount of relatable moments, the symbolism and descriptions, the subtleness when talking about sensitive topics. The letter format also makes it feel much realer and raw.

Not a ton happens in this book, but that's something I usually love. I love reading about mundane lives, mundane observations and the little things that make us human.
