I wasn’t sure I’d enjoy this book at first..the main character frustrated me a bit early on. But as the story unfolded and she began to grow and learn more about herself, I found myself really warming up to her. The author added a refreshing twist to the typical romantasy formula (no insta-love here!). The relationships felt earned, and the characters, shaped by their pasts and betrayals, came across as authentic and endearing.

Above all, this is the ultimate grumpy-sunshine romance, and I absolutely loved that. It was genuinely sweet and satisfying, and as I said above, endearing.

I gave it 4 stars because while I really enjoyed the characters and their development, the pacing dragged a little in parts, and it took me a while to fully connect with the story. Still, it was a strong end and I’m excited to continue the series!

This was such as easy 5 stars and The Road of Bones has managed to cement itself as one of my favorite books of 2023.

And to think I had it on my TBR and sat on it for so long... But, sometimes that's better, because you wait for the perfect moment to read a specific book. And oh my god, this book was so good.

The writing was superb, the characters were so developed, the dialogue, the interactions, the emotions... I have no words! Last night I found myself thinking about those characters, their motivations, their greyness - I think that is compliment enough.

I know this book will stay on my mind and now I have to wait for the second installment with utter trepidation...
