The Descent of Monsters by Neon Yang

Allungamento del brodo is not the way!

A beautiful addition to Neon Yang’s Tensorate universe. This is the third novella and my favorite in the series so far.

The plot is revealed through diary entries and letters, which fit both the writing style and the short length of the story. The protagonist is Chuwan Sariman, a new character to the universe, but older characters make appearances as well and tie the story to the previous two entries in the series.

This is a combination of “Jurassic Park” monsters and “Carrie”-esque horror, and the story does an excellent job of bringing a unique tone to the series while still slotting into the overall world. Great job, and I hope that there are more Tensorate novellas (or maybe a novel?) coming in the future.

Not gonna lie, this did not live up to my expectations.
I really enjoyed [b:The Red Threads of Fortune|33099586|The Red Threads of Fortune (Tensorate #2)|J.Y. Yang|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1485291555l/33099586._SY75_.jpg|53763118], so I was super excited for this one because it sounded like it would heavily feature Rider as protagonist. While there are chapters from Rider's POV, the focus is more heavily on another new character, and a lot of chapters are told as recordings, letters and transcribts. In audio, this unfortunately ended up being very confusing for me. I still think Nancy Wu's performance was great, though!

Really enjoyed the unique style of storytelling in this novella. I am not generally a novella fan but the tensorate series has definitely changed my mind. A rich world filled with diverse characters and politically relevant story lines.
