I read the book and gave it three stars. It seemed like an apology, an explanation of, and not being responsible for the death of many mountain climbers who tried to climb Mt Everest May 10, 1996. Lots of examples of near-death conditions in sub-zero temperatures in hurricane-strength winds. It was out of context for me and I could not relate to suffering being literally frozen, with frostbite, with oxygen depletion, HAPE, HACE, hypothermia, and impaired of judgment, but then walking out. I didn't understand the various terms used by mountain climbers. Technical details were missing for the tools used. The Kindle book includes an Epilogue and Author's Note that are not in the audio version. These chapters detail the 'blame game' that developed after 'Into Thin Air' was first published. This could be a big part of a discussion in a book club. I have no opinions and no particular interest in exactly what happened or who was to blame at 29,000 feet.

Into Thin Air is a piece of art. It is one of my favorite books, and I recommend it to everyone. It's tragic, thrilling, and beautifully written.

It is the epitome of how people reach their limits and in the end, nature prevails.

There’s a kind-of-twist in this that’s a little wild and jarring and frightening. But other than that there’s a LOTTTT of people to familiarize yourself with in this.
