Finally finished this book, and what a relief! This book was extremely boring and lifeless. It usually takes me a day to read a novel, and if I'm extremely busy then 3 days, and this book took me much longer to finish. I finished it just for the sake of finishing every book I start, but thank god that's over.
With all the YA books around it's kinda rare to find book like this in this genre. The twists of the story are amazing and keeps the reading interesting throughout the book. How much I loved mythology involved in it. I found this one very good (since I'm interested in hiistory). Fine reading...
Unbeknownst to Lia and Alice, they are part of a prophecy. The first sign appears on Lia’s wrist after she, Alice and their brother Henry bury their father. It’s a raised welt in the shape of a snake eating it’s own tail. Later Lia notices a couple of local girls, Sonia and Luisa, with the same welt on their wrist. It turns out they are all part of an ancient prophecy involving twin sisters. One sister is the gate, and the other is the guardian. The “gate” is all that stands between humanity and Lucifer. If the gate is opened, Lucifer shall be loosed upon the earth to wreck the havoc of the apocalypse.
Classic case of good vs. evil, God vs. the Devil…all that stands in the way is a couple of 16 year old girls in the late 19th century. Of course one is on the side of God and one on the side of the Devil. While the book is beautifully written I found the story moved much too slowly for my liking. I also found the storyline a bit too predictable. That aside, this is the first book in a trilogy, and I’m hoping it was the backstory that mostly bogged down the story. I’m planning on reading the second book, in the hopes that the pace picks up and the story takes on some more exciting elements.

Holy cow, this book was beyond awesome! Will have to find time to write proper review on my blog. But I was wowed and blown away by the story!
I can see why people would like this book. It was written well and the story was different and interesting. But I didn't like it. There were a few things about it that are good and different from other YA books. I loved how this book was centered around girls working on this mystery together and guys weren't helping anything along. The girls friendship was stronger then in other books and that was great to see. But I was so bored and I had to force myself to keep reading it. I wanted to D n F this book so bad but I had to force myself not to. My mind couldn't stop wandering off. The cause of that was probably because I wasn't in the mood for this kind of book, and I don't really like books like this anyway. I never could get into "adventures" like this. Or these kind of mysteries. Although I liked all the girls in it I love having some sort of male character for me to love. The guy in the romance in this book there was nothing about him that interested me slightly. I didn't get attached to any of the characters and I don't care about them. I read this at the worst time, I was in a small reading slump and that shouldn't of been the time I read a book that I'm not interested in. Anyway I will not read the next book.
This book stayed with me for the longest time ever and I kept coming back to it every now and again, until I just decided to give up on it altogether. It just doesn't go anywhere, all it has are some intense eye staring with one of the sisters having deep thoughts once in a while and the days go on without anything major or exciting happening. Meh.
It was hard for me to get into the book at first. But one day I actually sat down at work and read it and man was I wrong for judging. It was a decent book to be honest. It was more fantasy then romance but in all it was nice to be taken to another world.
Wow. Boring. I could have kept going but when the main compared the awkward looks she was getting after becoming an orphan to the ethnic discrimination another girl had to face, I got tired of the myopic and emotionally stunted heroine. I own the book so maybe I'll get through it some other time, but not now.
Found out Eliza Dushku reads the audiobook - maybe I'll do that and temper the heroine's shallowness with a good voice.
