A cute book comparable to Harry Potter. Personally I found the writing to be more choppy but at the same time I really enjoyed the world itself.

I started this series as a tween, and never got to finish it as the books were still coming out. I loved it then, and enjoyed it again now. My only real critique is that it moves very quickly, even for a children's book. I wish there had been a little more descriptive detail put into it, particularly the highpoints of the story.
2018 - Book #11 of 100 : I took a walk down memory lane with this re-read. It was on of my favorite books in high school and I can see why. It was originally marketed as something to read after Harry Potter. As a total fangirl of Harry Potter, it filled the gaps between books coming out.
It does take some themes from Harry Potter but, if I had to describe it, I would say it is more of a mystery with some magic thrown in, rather than a fantasy novel. As an adult, the mystery is still captivating and entertaining. Plus, since it has been close to a decade since I read it, I didn't remember most of the storyline, so I still enjoyed the reveals.
On the magic side of the book, that most (not all) of the "powers" the "endowed" have are very unique. It does wrap up the central mystery neatly at the end of the book, but it does leave some unsolved side mysteries so you'll move onto the next book, which is probably what I'll do once it is available from my local library.

Great book to go alongside a book like Harry Potter. Almost line a Harry Potter for kids who are a little younger.
Picked it up because it reminded me of Harry Potter. Finished the series because it was its own story and a very good one at that.
