I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

OMG a 2023 romcom that I actually loved?? Shut the front door 😂 Planes, Trains, and All the Feels was honestly SO GOOD. I loved Livy Hart's debut last year and I think at this point, I will be on the lookout for anything she publishes.

We have a strangers to enemies to lovers type of situation here with Cassidy and Luke. It all begins when he steals her parking spot at the airport, although he would tell you he took that spot fair and square 😂 From then on, their journey takes a wild turn as their plane has a technical issue and they're forced to share the last rental car to make it to their destination 😂 Prepare yourself for an epic plot twist involving their rental car 💀

Not only do we have a wild and fun travel journey, we also have the most amazing banter between Luke and Cassidy 🤌🏽 He's a starchy and super responsible actuary who makes plans. She's a fun-loving and charming dancer who doesn't know how to spell plans. And they're forced to share only one car and only one clamshell bed. It's perfection 🤌🏽

This book was a solid romcom, with loveable characters, a well-written storyline and characterization, great chemistry and tension, solid relationship and character development, and really good steam (higher than expected 🥵). This book checks all my boxes for a romcom, minus the third act breakup, but it's also an understandable breakup. I was 💯 convinced that Luke and Cassidy truly fell in love during their trip. Their journey was so well-written that their love for each other felt believable.

In terms of character development, both Cassidy and Luke have their respective family drama. Obviously, these issues don't get magically resolved because it's simply not realistic. But both Cassidy and Luke show growth in the way they approached their respective family conflict and dealt with it.

I'm really hoping for a Will and Berkeley story. She's grumpy and cynical and he's all charm and sunshine. Their banter and their meet cute also hooked me. I really need them to fall in love!!!

The second half yanked it for me. But the male audiobook narrator is hot. Am I just a jaded single old lady that contemporary romance makes me yell “gross” out loud? Can’t be. Maybe is.

♾️⭐️ No notes. I smiled so hard reading this my face hurts.
I also made an insane amount of highlights. The banter is gold. I would have loved to be stuck in a car with these two.

His attention was currency, and without it, I’m broke.

genre: Contemporary Romance
tropes: road trip / hate-to-love / forced proximity/ difficult family dynamics
pages: 333
writing: single POV
rating: ★★★★★ [5/5]
spice: explicit

I am utterly obsessed with this book!

It is just the right length to get me invested in the characters without feeling too dragged out or full of filler. The constant travel mishaps were fun, the bickering was entertaining and their relationship evolved beautifully. Albeit the conflict was resolved really fast, I was here for the amazing chemistry and spice.

Luke, this blonde bespectacled man took me by surprise with his dirty talk and dominance.

Overall, just really funny, lighthearted and a great read.

This man may require a Rosetta Stone.

That wasn’t just good sex. It was a conversation, and our bodies were screaming.

4 ⭐️ This was so much fun!

"It's a travel sh*tstorm and we're stuck in it together."

WHAT TO EXPECT:
✨ he's a kind, 'married to his work' consultant trying to get home to see his mom and sister
✨ she's a carefree, fun-loving dancer trying to make it to her sister's wedding
✨ they get off on the wrong foot
✨ everything goes wrong
✨ road trip shenanigans
✨ forced proximity
✨ opposite attract
✨ grumpy x sunshine
✨ great banter
✨ lots of tension
✨ denial of attraction
✨ miscommunication
✨ 2/5 spice
✨ light exhibitionism and hot car sex
✨ complicated family dynamics
✨ third act breakup (but it makes sense)
✨ HEA
✨ dual pov

My Thoughts:

Is the story ridiculous? Yes! But is it worth the read? Absolutely!

The entire plot centers around everything going wrong, yet somehow, the story felt entirely plausible in an unrealistic, fun, rom-com way. Cassidy and Luke may have just been trying to get home, but what they find in themselves and with each other along the way changes their lives forever.

Here's what I love most about this story:

The complexity of the characters. Cassidy and Luke have different personalities, interesting backstories, unique family histories, and relatable insecurities. And what I appreciate most is that Livy Hart took her time peeling back the layers to these characters so we progressively understand and fall in love with them throughout the story. PS: This one's for the girlies who've never felt good enough.

The romance between Cassidy and Luke. They are total opposites. Yet somehow, they are exactly what they needed. Both Cassidy and Luke's family dramas and insecurities are inextricably linked, and it was heartbreaking seeing them both struggle. However, I loved how over time, they realized how those things were holding them back, and if they wanted to live a happy, fulfilled life and open themselves up fully to love, then they needed to make changes. It was wonderful watching them grow as individuals and then as a couple.

The sex scenes . .
