Oh Mr. Estes what a horribly wicked, wonderfully awesome place you have created in the Tri-Realms!
I thoroughly enjoyed The Moon Dwellers from start to finish. I don't like to give things away in my reviews, bc I myself hate to stumble upon too many spoilers. Especially about a good book and this is a GOOD book. If you loved Hunger Games than I think it is safe to say you will love this one but believe me when I say they are not one in the same. My thoughts:
I was worried at first that it would be a bit copy cat of HG because there are some similar elements i.e. Mining, districts vs. Sub-continents, kick butt lead female with no social skills, little sis, suspect president ... BUT, and that's a big but, while there are similar ideas this book is soooo much more.
Two person POVs work extremely well here. Going from Adele to Tristan throughout brought so much depth to these characters. I fell in love with them rather quickly. In fact, I fell for all of the supporting cast quickly, the good guys anyways!
Bromance! Tristan and his servant/BFF had such an awesome relationship with each other that there were times I wanted to pick up the phone and call my BFF, whose 500 miles away, just to tell her I love her! I loved the humor that their interactions brought to the story as well.
A story of mutual um...affection? This would be the best way to classify our budding romance between Adele and Tristan. Young love is complicated as it is but add in magnetic first glances, I'm a prisoner your a prince, mad man chasing me, war zone, "i'm risking my life for you, oh by the way I'm Tristan", and of course your parents had mine arrested..this will be one happy family around the dinner table on turkey day! You can see why this isn't just your run of the mill boy meets girl, girl swoons, kind of book. This isn't a gratifying love story for about 75% of the book and that's a good thing. I kept flipping pages thinking "okay this chapter surely they'll finally catch each other". My husband asked me why I grumbled several times during my reading, I was that frustrated for Adele and Tristan! But Oh- mylanta the first night they are finally with each other..swoon..so perfect for this couple in the telling of their story.
Story, story, story. First, the setting is wonderfully described. David created an awesome (under)world of caverns and fake sun/moon, Ii found the inner workings of an underground habitat to be quiet interesting. Second, the tales of friendship, hardship, betrayal and family are all gripping and the fighting is crazy good too. We are left at the end with lots of questions; what does Tristan know about his Dad, what's up with Adele's mom, can our couple ever find love??
I for one can't wait for book two, coming in September, to continue this story. I was given a free copy of this book for an honest read and review but would willingly have bought it..it's that good people. Go read it, you won't be sorry.
That's just my humble opinion ;)

This was freaking awesome! It was entertaining from the very beginning and incredibly action packed. Recommend to everyone and also the whole series is on Kindle Unlimited!!! 🤯
I would like to thank David Estes for giving me a copy of this book. However, this fact does not affect my thoughts about this novel.
The Moon Dwellers was something I was excited for. And to make sure it's something I would like, I read the prelude of the story, which David shared in his blog, and the preview (first chapter) he offered in Smashwords. It didn't make sense at first, of course, but I got more excited because the first chapter was intriguing and the writing style is clean.
Two main things make up this novel, a brewing war and the romance. If you're not a big fan of insta-love, I suggest you put that dislike aside and give this book a try. It's unique and different in a way, it gives a new meaning to love-at-first-sight and leaves the romance time to develop. You'll see.
Like any other dystopian story, there is a bigger task at hand other than the romance and I like that the female protagonist's focus is on that task rather than just gushing over a guy, although there were parts that she does that, she still sets her feelings aside for the greater good.
Each chapter is written in alternating first-person POVs of Tristan and Adele. The whole story is one big adventure for both parties (Tristan and Roc; Adele, Tawni, and Cole). And each party gets caught in a situation that seems inescapable but would eventually get through it by sheer luck and coincidence. I was literally hanging on at the edge of my seat every time each party gets in danger.
I love all the main characters and their relationships! Tristan and Roc's friendship is one of my favorites. The bromance is overwhelming that I even made comments about them being the real couple in the story. The friendship between Adele and Tawni and Cole is also something, Adele only met the two but they stuck with each other till the end. As for Tristan and Adele, techncally there's no relationship yet, only an attraction that no one can explain.
One would say that there is a lot of coincidence in the story, that it's unrealistic, too planned. Don't forget that this is fiction and the author can do whatever he wants as long as it makes sense and comes out good. Plus, the coincidences that occurred in the story is something that we often see in movies or TV shows. Who's to say similar coincidences don't happen in real life?
The pros outweighs the cons (not that I listed any) and I rated this 4 (4.7 actually) out of 5! The sequel, The Star Dwellers will be released this September 30th!

The Moon Dwellers:
4 Stars.
Let me first say, nice cliffhanger there at the end. Now, I have to go find the second book just to see what happens next and then the cycle continues.
I loved this book. I couldn't stop reading it. I will be honest and say that I skimmed the synopsis and really didn't know what I was getting into when I began this novel. The world that Mr. Estes creates in this novel, it absolutely fascinating. I felt that the general history he gives us of the world gave us enough information to remain intrigued but also left a lot of holes to leave us want more information.
The pace of this book, I felt there was always something happening. I never felt a drop in action that I do in most novels. I think it had to do with the characters being on the run, but still. I didn't see one thing coming this entire novel... well, except for the whole Adele and Tristan relationship. Thank you, Mr. Estes for fulfilling that romantic quota for me.
Speaking of Adele and Tristan, the split perspectives of the novel was very interesting. I have read novels before that were written the same way and I am sorry to say I didn't rather enjoy them. I think I enjoyed this novel because I loved both of the characters. I felt that Mr. Estes did a fantastic job of creating different styles to help distinguish the two narrators, as well.
Now, as far as content wise; I thought the entire civilization was very thought out. I enjoyed the setting of the novels and I thought the vast differences in the types of characters that were encountered throughout the novel were great. I mean we had sweet and honest Tawni to that crazed cannibal that tried to eat Tristan and Roc. I felt one of my favorite characters were Cole, I cried when he died. I felt that his character was very well developed in the portion of the story that he contributed too. I felt that the other characters such as Tawni, Roc, and Elsey were not as well developed. I hope to see them grow and further explained in the rest of books.
As far as Adele goes, I absolutely loved her character. I found the descriptions of her personality and physique to be rather contrasting and it caused me a lot of laughter as I read into the novel. I mean picturing this small young woman beating down trained guards. It was rather empowering for young women as well to see such a contrasting character, she was definitely wise beyond her years and I could foresee her making my list of favorite all time characters. She cared so much for her family, and I found my self fighting for her to be able to see her whole family again.
So, in conclusion I loved this novel. I really enjoyed the world that Mr. Estes created and I cannot wait to get my hands on the rest of the novels in this series or trilogy or whatever it is.

Wow. I read the anthology, Furthermore (my review here) and there were two contributions from David Estes and they were both my favorites. I was SO happy that after I finished the book, I had the Moon Dwellers right on my digital shelf, waiting to be reviewed. So, I dived right in, and I am so glad I did.
Adele has been taken away to the Pen, the prison for the teenagers, and she has a life sentence. Her parents are gone, her sister is in an orphanage and there is no hope left. Until the day she catches Tristan's eyes and meets her two new friends, Tawni and Cole. With them, everything changes. Tristan is the son of the president, but he is not like his father and he cannot help but be captivated by Adele's bravery and strength,
The first thing that I loved about this book was the plot. The dystopian genre has been raiding the book world for years now, but David Estes brought something new to the field. Although I would have appreciated it if he added a bit more detail to his descriptions, they were perfect, really, but I
still wanted to know more about this cruel, dark world.
Another thing I praise David Estes for, is his characters. They are superbly-crafted with believable motives. Adele and Tristan have claimed the spotlight. Though, I have to admit that I didn't like Tristan that much. He is the typical "book" guy, for now. There was a lot of character development in both Adele and Tristan and I loved watching (reading about, actually) them grow up.
David Estes has started one captivating series and I am looking forward to reuniting with Adele in The Star Dwellers!

*I was given a copy of this book from the author in order for an honest review*
There were things I both really liked and things I just didn't in this book. The beginning definitely hooked me though and was a fantastic start.
Overall, it was really well written and had a great plot. There were just certain parts that dragged for me, especially in Tristan's chapters. I didn't connect to either Tristan or Adele like I hoped to either. However, I am very intrigued by their connection and their feelings for each other.
I did really enjoy the other characters as well. Tawni and Cole were probably my favorites. Although I did not necessarily connect to Adele I did very much enjoy the fact that she was indeed a strong female character who did not lack emotions in order to make her strong. I enjoyed Tristan as well, especially how intelligent and good he was, but found him to be a bit whiny and privileged, especially toward the beginning. Which considering his place in the social structure and upraising is not surprising but it kept me from connecting him.
I am definitely interested to see what develops in The Star Dwellers with these characters and what kind of trouble they all get into. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys dystopian novels.
*sidenote: Do to procrastinating I did not read this book until right before my deadline to get this review done, so there is a good chance I rushed while reading this and did not enjoy it as much as I could have. I do feel horrible for that and hopefully if my to-read list dwindles or I have spare time on my hands I can re-read this at some point and see if my opinion changes.

I got a copy in exchange for an honest review
After all the great reviews I already had read about this book I was really glad when I got an ARC to read for a blog tour. I had high expectation of this book, but it certainly was a great read with an original story.
Let me start with the story, it is a unique dystophia story. I really liked it, but I think there was a bit too much focus "love at first sight". Both characters practically are in love with each other without knowing each other. I am not a fan of insta love, so I didn't like this part of the story. Luckily there where enough great parts to compensate. Although at times it was a bit boring and I felt like there was just missing something that would've made the book awesome.
When I think about the story I also immediately think about world building. I love world building and it is certainly something a good dystophia novel should have. Well let me say the world building was great. I loved the world and it was such an unique world. We even get an explantion for how the world came to be. We get enough world building, but I still would've liked to see more how the different classes live, I hope we get more of that in the next book.
And then the characters, almost from the beginning I loved the characters. There is so much depth to them and they all have their own unique personality. And from the two main characters we get enough background to also understand why they are the way they are. Adele was such a strong female characters, I really recommend this book for those who love strong female characters. She is strong in mind and body, knows how to fight, but never initiates a fight. I also liked Tristan and the fact that he don't wants to be like his father, but clearly thinks for himself. I still think that it is a bit strange he left everything he knew just to chase a girl, but that's my opinion. The side characters where also great, they had this characteristics that made them unique and I liked learning more about them.
There where a few characters that I didn't like. Like Tristans father and "the evil guy". I just really couldn't understand why they acted like they did. And they both seemed a bit simple characters, I didn't feel like there was much depth to them.
This book uses multiple perspectives. I am a huge fan of multiple perspectives, but I think the author could've used it a bit better. I really like seeing both Tristan and Adele's perspective, it makes the story more complete and we understand them both. We also see two different stories and perspectives. The thing I didn't like about the multiple POV's is that sometimes we get to see events from both their perspectives. First we see one of their POV's and then it stwiches to the other POV and some of the events we already saw we now see from another side. Sometime it works, but most of the times I felt like it disrupted the flow of the story a bit. Also the author uses cliffhangers a bit too often, many chapters end with a small clifhanger and we get the other's POV, while I just wanted to see more from the current POV.
To conclude: a great and original story. I loved the world building and the characters. I do think there was a bit too much focus on the insta love and I think the multiple POV's could've been done better. Overal I really enjoyed the book and am curious what will happen in the next book.

Okay I have to start by telling how freaking much I LOVED the basic plot, like, humans living underground, in CAVES? Are you SERIOUS? I've always loved this kind of setting and the whole idea was very appealing. I'm also head over heels for the cover, it's just so beautiful!
If there was a book with an amazing portrayal of friendship (bromance, in this case), this book is definitely it. I loved Tristan's and Roc's relationship, I rarely read books with boys having such strong friendships as these two do and it was just perfect. Roc was overall my favorite character by the way, along with Tawni. And Elsey! I love having badass little kids in books. I really do.
Honestly, Tristan's and Adele's romance didn't really gain my sympathy, especially because I'm not really fond of these love-at-first-sight type of stories, but I was totally rooting for them. I loved that we could read the events from both perspectives, even though sometimes there was absolutely no difference between the two and I had to go back to remind myself which character's POV I'm reading. Still, this way we could get to know a little bit of both chara's past and background stories are really what get me started.
I loved the fight scenes, they were pretty detailed, even though sometimes I was slightly grimacing at how easily our heroes defeat the bad guys (that's overally one of the flaws of this book in my opinion, the fact how "lucky" the main characters were when it came to dangerous situations) and I especially loved the.
I'm definitely going to read the next book when I get to it, I'm interested in finding out how our babies' stories are going to end and more about the world itself/the realms and I'm also anticipating more of David's amazing writing skills!

oh.my.freaking.gosh. I loveeeeeeed this book!!! This is exactly the type of book I love to read and it was different than the others I have read!
5 stars David!
This book made me feel the pain Adele and Tristian had to go through and it even made me laugh and then cry(when a certain character died). I will definitely be adding this book to my list of favorites! I loved the writing style, it made it so easy to get sucked in quickly. One of the things with me is that it has to capture my attention right away in order for me to continue reading it. This book totally did that and makes me a big fan of David Estes!
This book was given to me for free in exchange for a review and its totally worth it! I hope I did okay with the review David and thank you!
