Overall a good read! I loved the blend of mafia and hockey and figure skating; i dont think I've read anything like that before and it worked well! This book definitely hit on some favorite tropes, specifically touch her and die with a splash of who did this to you?
Also im not familiar with this author and I really liked her writing style, im looking forward to what comes next!

Starts off very slow and gets to 70% when it finally picks up. It’s very much written like a high schooler wrote it and so is the romance. Overall not a great read.

Absolutely yes to this sexy, hockey mafia romance read! I haven’t read too many hockey romances but I do love me a good mafia romance and this is the perfect marriage of the two, I loved this read!

Thank you so much to the author AJ Wilding for my ARC copy of No Promises, No Lies.. the first book in her Devils and Darlings series.

This was so addicting to read! I couldn’t put it down and forgot I was reading sometimes throughout. I was reading another book on my kindle and put it on hold to finish this one. I loved the FMC Aurora (Rory) and also the MMC Aiden.
**Rory is an absolute BADASS and loved seeing her confidence and grit develop throughout the book. Also that scene with her father towards the end? If you know you know and that was brilliant, loved her even more for that.
Rory and Aiden’s love story was violently cute, the best way I think I can describe it and it had me hooked.

Not only did I fall for the main characters and their relationship but it was easy to fall in love with other secondary characters too. I also loved that some characters I both disliked and loved and felt like I really got a good story on them and their background and not just the main characters.
The only part I got annoyed with, with the FMC was at the cottage with Aiden when she tried to run away on the lake because why! Silly girl… I knew that wouldn’t last long though, and thought maybe it could have either not been a part in the story or been dragged out just a little more for more suspense and/or anxiety but I’m a sucker for a book stressing me out. It ultimately was not a bad part just very quickly resolved.

There was great twists/turns and I said “oh shit” out loud more than once which is a great review from me if a book can do this.!

I loved this world and did not want to leave it, needless to say I can’t wait for the next one to come out because I need to know what happens after that ending!!
I actually teared up at the end as well and 3/4 of the way through which is very hard to get me to tears in a book but this did, loved it loved it loved it!!
Absolutely recommend.

“A promise is just another lie, dressed up to look beautiful enough to believe”

It’s been a long time since I’ve started a book that I want to keep reading and struggle to put down! This book was unexpectedly awesome! I was intrigued by this world where Russians, Italians, and Irish mobs collide. Hailing from the suburbs outside Boston and being Irish myself, I was immediately drawn into the world and clearly was rooting for the Irish 🍀what I struggled with was the inclusion of Hockey. It didn’t seem to make much sense in this mafia world being built. Didn’t detract from my enjoyment though.

“You’re mine, Rory. My complication, my problem, my obsession, mine to protect.”

I really loved Aiden’s character. Something about him drew me in the moment he hit the page. This bike riding hockey star that just so happens to be in the Irish mafia. Does it make sense? No! Did I still enjoy it? Yes! I loved hoe easily he folded when it came to Rory. She immediately broke him down and when he jumped, he was all in!

“He may have me in my knees, but he’ll be the one at my mercy”

I loved Rory! She stood up for herself and wasn’t so easy to just walk all over. She had weak points, and she could be kinda stupid, but she was also incredibly strong willed and wasn’t going to take shjt lying down! She pushed back, she fought back, she was such a good character. One thing I didn’t understand was after the “arranged marriage” her entire attitude changed and it didn’t really make sense considering what was going on the chapter before. It felt like it came out of left field and was just there to try and add drama. Didn’t like that.

Overall I really liked this one. It was an easy read and for a debut novel, this was sooooo good! I can’t wait for the next book!!

Mafia hockey romance at its finest

Hockey, mafia, enemies to lovers, touch her-you die, possessive and obsessive MMC - what more could you ask for? The MMC to be Irish?
