I have seen this series for a long time but never jumped into it. I have read a couple of them now and am will read more. Brunetti is an interesting character and I love how he thinks about “justice” vs the law.

DNF.
The author really loves Venice, but the characters are dull and formulaic. Meh.
dark emotional sad slow-paced

If you want to be reminded of your trip to Venice you will blaze through this by the books mystery.
The main character developed a little nuance but only in the last half of the book.
The plot was meant to have twists but they just unraveled.

i guessed the ending which probably played a huge part in me not really liking the book

Could not finish.

Maybe later

Magnífica primera entrega de la saga del comisario Brunetti. De lectura imprescindible para amantes de la literatura policíaca.

An excellent first in a series. Brunetti reminds me of a more flawed? (not the right word because I don't mean it in a bad way) version of Gamache. The setting was so well done, and the mystery was not overdone.

Enjoyable introduction to a series I have heard a lot about for years. Setting is great, Commissario is interesting, likeable, and a bonus of being apparently well adjusted unlike many of his contemporaries.

Only thing that made this book a little jarring was the way LGBTI issues where discussed. Not a big plot device, and having to keep in mind the book was written 30 years ago, but still was a little off in parts. Not enough to stop me devouring the whole thing in a day however.
