Ah, Venice. City of canals. City of murder. But Commissario Brunetti will get his man in the end.
I like stand-up, moral guys who do the right thing, and Brunetti is the Italian version of my favorite lawman, Walt Longmire. Lawful good is my jam, folks. He solves the crime despite his superiors, red herrings, and roadblocks. I was way off on my assumptions, and I liked the resolution. Well plotted and I enjoyed the details.
New series for me. I like Commissario Brunetti and will definitely continue solving crimes with him.

Whodunit?
This book was good. It was also a sad book. I wish more detail went into how the inspector figured out the true culprit of the crime.

Such a well told story. A gentle unfolding of the mystery and it’s conclusion. Wonderful characters – especially Dottor Brunetti (and Venice). I’m so happy to be at the beginning of the series, to have so many more stories to look forward to!
Tryout read to see if I wanted to commit to the series. 6% read and decided not to continue.

I don't know what it is but this feels stilted. There is no real character to the main detective and the investigation felt haphazard. Not an author or series I will be following
This was one of the worst books I've ever read, laughably bad.
It's long-winded, the humour is unfunny, the characters are shallow, stereotypical, and seem like caricatures, and worst of all, nothing happens and hence the "mystery" is not even slightly engaging.
The main character just stumbles around randomly interviewing people in the most yawn-worthy fashion, to no real end, and then we just don't end up seeing half the people ever again.
Can't believe people have spoken highly of this author, this was enough to put me off for life.

My first outing with Donna Leon..and an enjoyable trip it was! I am more used to the hard-boiled crime genre so this was a pleasant change. The characters all have their secrets and proclivities but with a different tweek of violence. I guessed whodunnit within first 25 pages, but the evidence gathering was page turning
