Loved the miniseries, which was really faithful to the book. It's been on my list to read forever, and I am glad I finally read it. Now I have to watch the movie again.

Dear Penthouse,
I never thought I'd actually read (or like) a book by one of your former writers. However, I found Generation Kill to be both alarming and humorous at the same time...

Honest account of the United States war machine at a very personal level. I was surprised by how much Wright was able to humanize the soldiers, even as I was appalled by their words and deeds. Came out of this even more anti-war than I was going in.

after watching david simon's hbo series i wanted to get an idea of how 'true' he stayed to the book. the book obviously goes into more detail and the only conceit taken was that some events were moved forward or backward in time for dramatic purposes.

these days with so many movies and mini-series's 'based on a true story' it was refreshing that the writers decided to tell the story basically the way it occurred and overall i think the book succeeds as snapshot of the 2nd iraq war

Evan Wright truly was an excellent journalist. His observations of the people and events unfolding around him are both insightful and entertaining. This work is a fascinating up-close examination of the tactical and operational events of the Iraq invasion, written in such a way as to be accessible and entertaining to those with little to no exposure to military vernacular. A highly informative, challenging, and enjoyable read.

I bought this book because i saw that it had been turned into a mini-series on HBO. i have not seen any of the episodes yet, but after reading the book, i will definitely be planning to check it out. This book was written by an embedded reporter who ended up attached to a company of Force Recon Marines who were the lead element in the invasion of Iraq. Clearly the author is insane, but he ended up with an amazing book. This is the most fascinating and interesting book about war that i have read in many years. The author gives an amazingly detailed picture of life for the grunt Marines, complete with the hardships of living in the desert, wild urban combat, supply screwups, incompetent officers, heroism, boredom, guilt and all. The author got fantastic access to a lot of the chain of command so he was able to complete the picture after the fact, filling in what the platoon level commanders did not know at the time of the action. Many memorable characters emerge, both loved and hated.

The book reads like a mix of MASH and Blackhawk Down... i could not put it down... luckily i was able to knock it out in one long plane ride. Highly recommended.
