This was a super weird experience for me. From the title, synopsis, tags (dark, BDSM, crime) I thought this was going to be totally different than what it was; the 'psychopath' part was treated more like a quirk in this - it felt almost like a mockumentary kind of thing to me - which made it hard to take serious. The romance felt repetitive (even though I haven't read the first book!). There was this one part were character A (love interest from the first book) is like 'you broke into his apartment and stared at him like a creep?' and then character B is like 'didn't (mc from the last book) do this to you, too?´' and character A is like 'yep, that's right' and I'm over here like???? that's so boring! Why would you recycle your own scenes like that? Also, the romance was 100% too fast; there was no build-up and it made no sense to go there already.

More psycho-pathetic serial killer fun, this time with a dash of paranormal!
I enjoyed the concept of the pairing, and I'm appreciating the variety in personality and dynamics in what could feel quite samey given the ~brothers'~ similarities. Very insta "love" and while I think it kind of works in this context, it still did feel a little OTT for me. I think particularly on Lucas's side, as I did feel like he fell a little more quickly than really felt believable, but basically none of the book is meant to be believable, so that's okay. It's great mindless, fucked-up reading. :)
Interested in the concept and pairing for the next book, but let's be real, I am even more convinced that Aiden's gonna be paired up with Thomas and I am HERE FOR IT. And bummed that it's likely gonna be the last book because that makes the most sense but I WANTS IT.

august august august, you got me in a chokehold! I wholeheartedly adored him and Lucas together. This series does something to me bc i just can’t ever get enough! The whole plot and universe of this series just screams to me and i will not stop until i devour every single one.
Lucas was a total angel, i loved his character and his background - fbi profiler? spencer reid is that you bae? Lucas and August were everything i hoped for and i loved their development, the way these two also brought the heat was unreal! Chemistry, smoking.
These brothers gonna be the death of me too bc the found family vibes is just everything, I love them allllll

Eta 2: comfort reread/listen. I love August and Lucas so much.
ETA: Going to listen to this in audio as my first re-read since it came out and I'm already in love and remembering why this is my favorite couple (well, kinda tied with Avi and Felix nowadays lol) but I just love the voices and this narrator is so great with this series.
AHHH this series is so, so, so twisted and so freaking AMAZING. I'm already so excited for the next book!
Onley James is becoming a major go-to writer for me. Everything I read from her is a 5+ star read for me. You will fall in love with the morally grey MCs, you will root for them to BE the bad guys, and you will love the chemistry she writes between the MCs - it is always, always fire. So if you haven't picked up this author yet, I strongly urge you to do so.
August is a professor by day, psychopath vigilante by night. He and his other Mulvaney brothers, led by their adoptive father Thomas, work to take down the bad guys that the legal authorities can't or won't take out. August meets Lucas, another professor on campus - but Lucas is also ex-FBI and possesses a unique skill of psychometry. Their connection is instant and quick and hot and just works for them so, so well.
Definitely heed some warnings - there is torture, some graphic description of death and torture, some blood play and knife kink play, but don't let the warnings stop you from falling for this crazy twisted family oh psychopaths. For being an autistic psychopath, August is incredibly sweet...and there are some hilarious moments mixed in this book that really help lighten up the situations.
I love Noah being the human voice and opinion in things, and how well he and Lucas got along. I just love this twisted family so much and can't wait for the next book. (And Thomas' book!)
I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.

Brilliant!
Loved it!
This was so much fun to read. August and Lucas were made for each other. The dialogue, romance, the rest of the Mulvaney family all roll up into a brilliant story. So looking forward to the next book
