Dec 31, 2022 fun reread before the last book releases

Jan 15, 2022 This was a quick and fun read on KU. The characters were funny and likable. I finished this book in one sitting. Bonus points for the bulldog.

Honestly was is wrong with these people? How the fuck can you trust a guy you just met and who you know is a murderer and "fall in love" with him in less than 7 days? I don't know who is crazier, the "psycho" Mulvaney brother or the men who fall in love with them. I think the men who fall in love with them are crazier because at least the Mulvaney brothers have the excuse that they're psycho or whatever.

First of all, I hate the insta love thing. It's just so stupid (because you JUST met and you know he's a fucking serial killer!!! how the fuck are you falling in love with someone like that!! like??? and he just broke into your house, please just have some self-respect.) and it feels very lazy on the author's side. Like just say you can't write an actual relationship and how it's "developed" and be done with it. I hope not all the books are insta love but I have a feeling they are. Then again, the books are less than 300 pages, what was I expecting?

The men who fall in love with the Mulvaney brother feel the exact same so far. Noah and Lucas feel really similar, like way too similar, like they could be the same person. They have both been described as fragile by their bfs and both of their bfs have been like "I want to protect him, he's so sweet and fragile and innocent". Also, idk if this is in all mlm books but I don't rly like that one of the guys in the rs is always so weak and fragile, it feels like one of the guys in the rs has traits that are "stereotypical female traits". Idrk how to explain it well and please don't cancel me but that's what it feels like.

There were so many cringy lines and not that many funny lines. That was something that I really liked in Unhinged and this book was missing that :(. Also why is this author so obsessed with turning characters into strippers? First Harry Potter (how Lucas described August) and then Cinderella? What is it with the stripper obsession, just let it go.

"Harry Potter... if he moonlighted as a stripper."
"[...] like if Cinderella had become a stripper."
"Yeah, but you've got me and I'm the monster other monsters fear."

Those were just some of the cringy lines. However, there were some funny lines:

"'What if I want him to do those things to me?' [...] 'I did not see that one coming,' Adam said. 'I totally did,' Archer muttered" ok that was funny
"'Are you into some weird fetishes? Necrophilia or, like, licking feet?' 'A foot fetish comes after necrophilia for you?' Adam asked, chuckling" yeah i'd chuckle too at that
"Was murder an act of service?" yes you cutie, murder is an act of service (this line kind of reminds me of that one fic in which Draco thought "acts of service" meant dressing up as a house-elf and cleaning the house).

There were some things I liked, 'cause if not this would've been 1 star. First of all, ig I can't judge the book too hard 'cause I kinda knew what I was getting myself into. It is, after all, just some quick, lowkey cringe story, so I can't blame it for that.

I really liked August, maybe even more than Adam (even though Adam was funnier, even in this story). He is kind of a cutie and rly sweet, even if he isn't trying. I mean, he is stupid for just spilling his secret to this random guy he just met and yeah I get Lucas "saw" everything but did you really have to spill the beans on your family too? Like...

I did like seeing Adam & Noah being happy and I liked the Star Wars reference in the epilogue. Oh, and that they didn't say "I maybe love you" (sorry Adam & Noah). Anything variation of "I love you" is cringe asf, like "I wolf you" in the series You. Like bruh wtf.

Overall, this book was once more a cringy book but ig I can't blame it for who it is. The smut was just not my thing 'cause butt stuff is weird (ik it's their only "option" but like ew) and disgusting (I'm pretty sure once time one of the guys wiped his fingers on the bedsheets after using them, that's so nasty). I like August but Lucas felt like a repeat of Noah.
