I feel bad because I generally liked the first book in this series, but I just could NOT get into this one. I never warmed to Heather and Josh... oofta. Yeah. I get that he had a scrape with death but to me, he was less of a survivor and more using it as an excuse to be an asshole.
Two and a half stars. I rounded up for Goodreads because I have warm fuzzies from the first book and I'm still looking forward to Heather's boss and her accountant finally getting together.
Heather is working to become a full wedding planner for the elite Wedding Belles company. She has just booked her first major client but is having problems not only because her client isn't acting very... bridal but also because the man next door seems to be up all hours of the night playing music with his band.
A few years ago, Josh was making the big bucks on Wall Street and living the hard life. But then, everything changed. Now he's trying to take time to smell the roses... and he thinks Heather should too. Can these two disparate people ever hope to find love?

Heather is a small-town girl with a lot to prove, if she wants to be promoted beyond assistant wedding planner. And she does. So, her noisy neighbor, Josh? He's an unwanted distraction.
This one was pretty straightforward. Meet cute, hot no-strings sex, they both catch feelings, then deny feelings, one of them pushes the other away and then comes to their senses, grand gesture, all is forgiven, cue perfect wedding, promotion, the happily ever after and all that it implies.
This book employed so many tropes it was hard to keep track of them: cheesy come-ons, money that solves everything, a big dark secret that isn't that dark or that much of a secret, noisy neighbors meet cute, conveniently evil ex, etc. And yet, Layne somehow manages to hold my interest anyway. The characters are likeable, almost too so for my taste, and the happy ever after is satisfying enough. It's just all a little too easy for me.

This was a fun read. I loved every minute of it, and read it pretty quickly. It's a great addition to The Wedding Belles series, and probably my favorite as of right now. I can't wait to dive into the next book.
5 Reasons to read For Better or Worse

I've read these way out of order as my library hold expired on the first book while I was on vacation
I received a review copy from netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
There's not much difference between this book and the first book so for me there's no improvement but it's a descent looking cover.
I didn't think Lauren Layne could improve on the previous book but this one has definitely done it as it was more enjoyable even if it was ever so slightly. I think what made this book slightly better was the humour as this one seemed to be a lot more funnier than the previous book. There was never a dull moment in this book as not only was it funny it also had a very serious subject matter involved which I actually liked that it was tackled more light hearted. The chemistry between the two main characters was smoking hot and I loved their banter. I loved the ending of this book as I felt it ended perfectly for this book and now I'm very excited to start the last book.
I loved every single character in this book with no one that I disliked. Heather was a great female character who held her own throughout. Josh has to be one of my favourite ever male characters as he was so funny and such a scene stealer. What worked even more with this book was the interaction between Heather and Josh as there was plenty of banter and on top of that they where there for one another which was nice to see.
Overall, I loved every minute of this book and there was not one dull moment, bring on the next book is all I can say.

I LOVED To Have and To Hold and basically every other Lauren Layne book I've read, so when I had the opportunity for an early copy of For Better or Worse it was like my birthday had come early!
We've seen Heather both in the novella and the previous book but I feel this book allowed her character to soar free and in turn let me love her as she deserves.
I loved Heather's outlook on life and how she had her dreams and worked hard to achieve them. I have to say, until relatively recently. I didn't realise that wedding planning was such a prominent business but this book/series helped me realisse just how much work it is and what a competitive setting it is. Anyone that is using a wedding planner/planning to use one, please remember to be super nice!!!
In this Heather is finally getting the step up from assisstant to Wedding Planner and her first client is a socialite a la Kim Kardashian... So no pressure!
Having finally been able to buy her dream apartment, HEather learns she's actually moved next door to someone who feels it is approriate to play music at all hours.
Enter Josh. Josh (surprise surprise) is the neighbour that plays music at all hours. Surprisingly, he isn't Heather's complete opposite as it tends to be in this type of situation. Josh is just as focused as Heather but in a different way, I believe. Previously a Wall Street guy, he's currently taking a break but his inability to remain aimless is I think what really cements his and Heather's relationship.
I loved the conversation between the two of them as well as their family/friend connections and how everyone was just rooting for them and encouraging their happiness. I love love love how Alexis always has a hand in everyone's relationships and I cannot wait to see how much she hates it when everyone does the same to her in the next book.
This is a wonderful series and as much as I've loved LL's standalones, series where I get to keep an eye on the characters will always have my heart so thank you! May I interest you in a PR company for your next series *wink*

Cute love story, but the ending was really unrealistic.

First I just want to say that I Love the covers of this series. And there is no doubt that I love Lauren Layne's books. So I was very happy to receive an ARC of this copy from Netgalley. And even more happy because I loved reading this book. This series keeps getting better and better.
We meet Heather, our heroine, in the previous books. She is one of the Belles. As in works as a wedding planner, well an assistant wedding planner, but she is up for promotion. And she needs her sleep because weekends are her big days. But enter Josh, our hero, former Wall Street worker turned musician. Who plays music so loud Heather can't get a moment's sleep.
So they get on this very cute frenemy kind of foot. I loved the main characters. Where Heather is feisty and strong and vulnerable at the same time, Josh is funny, witty and with some secrets of his own. Their banter was very fun to read.
"The other night when you were so cranky, I thought for sure you must be a morning person… I see now that this irritable thing you have going on is more of a twenty-four/seven thing."
Their chemistry is really good so its very hard not to give in to the temptations. Especially when Josh is being super helpful when Heather sleeps in the her friends are coming over for brunch. And Heather seeming vulnerable hiding behind those power suits. As they come to know each other, they discover they like each other more than they though.
But the struggle is real. Josh is all about living in the moment but he is also tired of that and he loves his numbers. Can he keep his distance from Heather? Can Heather?
I really liked the side characters as well, Josh's family, the Belles, I loved seeing Brooke and Seth taking the next steps in theirs lives, loved seeing Alexis and Logan, I so can't wait for their book! Basically I just loved seeing all the main characters in a group. What I wanted was a long epilogue for Josh and Heather. But I always want that for every book so..yeah. LOL. Hoping to see more of Josh and Heather in the next book as well.
Some of my favourite quotes :
*
"I was brooding."
"You mean sulking," Heather corrected.
"No, YOU were sulking. I was brooding."
"Why the distinction?"
He pointed at her breasts then her crotch. "Tits. And, ah-"
*
*
she stepped forward, bending at the waist until her lips were near his ear. "I love you. I'll always love you."
*
"I love you more than is sane for any man to love any woman. All the way, to the ends of the earth."

Seth let out a small snort. "You realize, right, that out of the three of us, I'm the one that just got engaged, and yet I have the least whipped expression on my face."*
