Powerful, hard-hitting, book that manages to be gruesome, funny, and insightful all at once. A laid-back genius pot dealer, his assassin friend, their openly-loving girlfriend, get entangled with some real baddies. Bad times ensue. Lots of stuff you won't find elsewhere, and definitely not for the weak of stomach or prudish. But if you want a great slant on the way the world really is, this is a book for you.

Loved it! Loved the story, loved the style, loved the wordplay, loved the characters, loved the action, loved the sex, loved ev. ery. thing. Thanks, Don Winslow. Don't know what else to say, you can read the plot summary elsewhere, I'll just add that the way that this book is written makes what could otherwise be a pretty straightforward thriller/action story a bit more interesting. I also love the O/Ben/Chon relationship, it's different and unique and seems real, and the characters are flawed like real people--not any people that I know, but still people.
I read this book twice, back to back, and I'd pick it up again.

Although a quick paced story and lots of dark humour, it was a bit too cutesy in terms of the language. One dimensional characters. But at least they were having fun during the drug war.

This novel is very dark. It’s still entertaining but I think I enjoyed the prequel better. This was written like an Oliver Stone film and I feel like since I read the prequel first I knew the characters better and actually liked them more due to my reading of the prequel. It’s unapologetic and funny I places.

I knew, I knew that the end of the movie was not right! He saved them once on "Kings of cool", he would have not done it twice, I think I know Winslow and in the end he is ruthless!

taut, raunchy, horrifying with spot-on sociopolitical satire. great book but it pisses me off that most of the Spanish words are spelled wrong and no one at Simon & Schuster (if they still bother to pay proofreaders and copy editors) gives a damn.

Perfect as a beach read. In many ways better than the movie (o is at once more and less a transparent male fantasy). Funny. Quick. Don't expect anything more and you'll enjoy it.
