it isn't Shakespeare, not even Cormac McCarthy, but it sure is one hell of a read if your looking for something akin to the book version of Grand Theft Auto.

Savages was a poetic tale of chaos and action. I loved every page turning moment and felt like I was watching every word come to life.

I enjoyed every character and every character's role in the plot. There was not one unecessary character, useless moment or anoying situation. There were some moments of confusion ( though i blame them solely on reading in front of the television.DON'T DO IT). Otherwiase story was well written and innovatively written. i would recommend it to friends.

I also think I might read it again before the movie comes out on dvd. :)

Anti-climatic. Cheesy ending. The book was good and holds your interest. The characters are one dimensional and cliche to a fault. But the picture of CA that is painted has been painted many times before in much better books. The author desperately wants to make this a "classic romantic" read, but you end up not really caring about the characters. Still, a decent read.

totally dug this one. crazy intense story, but written with chill, nonchalant Laguna flow.

Yes it reads like a movie script. Yes it is clever, slick and Hollywood. I didn't analyze it- i just enjoyed every funny, brutal, nasty part of it. This is my second book by Winslow I read Dawn Patrol and loved it. This isn't for everyone but if you like reading about the raunchy, wild, violent side of life it is one fun ride.

A ridiculously fun read. Quick, sexy, funny enough.

Holy tangential, highbrow humor Batman! What did I expect when the opening chapter for this book was, "F*** you."

End chapter.

I didn't think it was possible to say an author writes like he's smoking pot and crack at the same time.... But it totally works. From jittery run- on (and on) sentences to page set-up you get into Winslow's frame of mind (which can seem scary once you realize you understand it...). I love the way Winslow didn't just write a story but he drew a picture; crazy page set-up, switching from a novel to movie script, changing POV... It adds so much to the story.

SPOILER:

I gave it 5 stars but I was really torn about that. It's one of those books that makes you HATE the ending but then when you think about it more you understand that it couldn't have ended any other way.

Life is savage.

Pure entertainment at its best. I truly enjoyed it the same way you enjoy a good movie.
Will read other books by Don Winslow for sure.
