Great fun. Super fast, kinetic read. The women for me are soaked in a sexual value system that yes, feels very much a part of the pulp tradition but leans to a wish-fulfillment that started to drive me nuts. Despite the large presence of many women in the narrative. Despite the one very powerful, brilliant woman crucial to the narrative. But, I definitely want to read the Cartel. Winslow's a great, hip, playful writer and I won't be surprised if this is a bit of a standout in what wore me down here.

Audible free, started out poorly, then improved. Was tough to grade. Ultimately, however, I'm looking at maybe reading more of his books

Started September 17th 2013.
The Blu-ray (uncut + extended) of the film is waiting to be seen, one more incentive to read this book fast.
(Paused reading this book on September, 21st 2013 to read something different, this is hipp and current in the language section, but somehow this does nothing for me ( 404 for someone being absent eg.).

What the fuck I just read, I do not know, but I really enjoyed it. Good book.

Super graphic. Needless to say I loved it. If a Quentin Tarantino film became a book (and was less violent) this would be it. Like O, I loved Ben AND Chon... impossible to choose in my opinion. The ending was perfect, which is something I can't often say about a book, even if I love it all the way through.

Not my usual genre, but Winslow is very good at it. Highly improbable, but great fun.

This is hard to rate. I liked the fast pace and snappy writing style, but I had a hard time caring about any of the characters. 3.5, I guess?

I've not seen chapters organized as such as Winslow. One paragraph, one sentence, one word chapters and those are structured in a haiku, free-form poetry type of flow. The chapters aren't stagnant with one character; each character's view gets its moment in the spotlight but with an easy merge from one to the next. I'm not usually one for crime, drug cartel, shoot-em-up type movies or books, but Winslow paints a pretty picture with this one. There is some beautiful craftsmanship in this novel.
