These book rock! Showalter weaves humor and gore so well. This book in particular was good, but the love story was not my favorite. Sure Lies and Nightmares make a great pair and I really like Gideon's character but that was not what drew me into the book. The insight into future plots was what really linked me to this story. Knowing more about Rhea and Cronus and getting a glimpse into the heavens, answered a lot of questions for me that I have wanted to know since the very first book. Excited to watch Secrets recover and know more about the annoying mysterious Haidee. More Lords!
ok not even gonna lie this cover of the book the guy
was hot i was like I'm not complaining when I see the cover this time LMAO but this book felt a lot more like her more recent books i love this one sm it’s for sure
one of my favs in the series idk where it ranks but for
sure up there yk. omg i was confused for most of the book tho bc the main guy can only speak in lies so I'm like tryna understand what he means and everything and i be mad confused unless the author explains like oh he meant this one but still my brain hurt. he still talks in lies at the end of the book but like he's able to talk normally when his demon comes out LMAO i feel so weird explaining this but i'll talk about the demon part later. the main plot twist in this book was kinda predictable but that didn't mean i didn’t eat this shit up and i was so sad half way through the book bc of it like normally the sad part is at the end but girl was like lemme switch it up a lil but ugh the main guy character in this book i'm in love w like his personality is great sm better than the others and the girl hot asf i'm in love w her too. it be kinda funny tho be there was this moment where their demons came out of their bodies and started to fuck LMAO i was so surprised at that scene like it felt like a fever dream. the side stories weren't my favorite bc i was kinda bored everytime it went to the other guys perspectives but the next book is gonna be about him and i'm like eh about it like i'm not that excited for it but i'll read it for sure. also these characters be mad weird and horny like a guy literally was to his mf friends killer like oh she looks too innocent to do anything bad i can't kill her and that bitch mf robs
him like y’all are so dumb how tf did you survive for so long. anyways giving this book a 9/10 bc it was so good ugh i’m so attached to this couple.

Oh, I loved this book! The beginning wasn't great after reading The Darkest Passion, but the ending was great! When Cronus and Gideon sat down with a bowl of popcorn to watch Scarlet and Mnemosyne battle it out, I couldn't help laughing a number of times. I really enjoyed it.
I'm rounding up from 3.5 stars. I liked it, especially certain scenes but, there were moments where, because of the shifting narratives, I really had trouble following what was going on. Finally, really clever twist and play on the title.
Gideon was my favorite character of the series so far. I loved the humour he added to the story. I found this book, however, didn't seem to have as much action as some of the others and didn't advance the overall series plot that much. I loved Gideon in the other characters stories and it is still a great read especially if you like the series.
As a big fan of this sereis and a dedicated fan to my favorite Lords (Lucian and Aeron) I was weary of another "Greece" based Lord book, Gideon did not make too much of an impression on me in the previous books but I was pleasantly surprised and fell in love with him and Scarlet. This book had a very interesting plot , a nice break from the Hunter-Lord struggle the other books are based on. Now I have to wait for Spring for the next book....boo hoo.....
The Darkest Lie
4 Stars
Synopsis
Gideon, the Keeper of Lies, has met his match in Scarlet, the Keeper of Nightmares, for he cannot tell if her tales of their marriage are true or false. While they try to work through their questions, Scarlet and Gideon are confronted with threats from the past that may destroy the future they seek together.
Review
Surprisingly refreshing and engaging.
The "Gideon Speak" takes some getting used to but it becomes easier as the book progresses. In fact, it is the repetitious and unnecessary translation and explanation of his true meaning that almost ruins the story.
Gideon and Scarlet are a cute couple and their romance is rather sweet and poignant. Despite his language difficulties, Gideon is a wonderful hero - sweet, open and, yes, honest. Scarlet is a strong and powerful heroine, and the descriptions of her traumatic life in Tartarus are heart-wrenching. She is, in many ways, the most dangerous and fearsome of all the Lords, and she is far more likeable than Olivia.
The plot, based on the theme of truth and lies, can be difficult to follow but the compelling twists and turns are exciting. As soon as you think you have a handle on what's going on, everything is turned on its head.
The developments in William, Sienna, Strider and Amun's stories are also intriguing and provide a necessary respite from the confusion of Gideon's speech. Moreover, the insights into Cronus and Rhea's characters and their motivation - the petty conflicts and jealousies - are true to the conventions of Greek mythology and add another interesting dimension.
Given the nature of Gideon's demon and the themes in the book, the writing is simply excellent and Showalter does an admirable job of merging everything together into a cohesive whole that mostly flows smoothly.
All in all, a good addition to the series and the next installment should be interesting to say the least.

Re-read for me
I love the Lords of the Underworld and Gideon is one of my favorites. I really wasn't into Scarlet at first but she grew on me.
There was so much side action going on that it was hard to keep up but it is very interesting and makes me thirst for more.

I never thought I would end up loving Gideon as much as I did.
Sure, every Lord has something that appeals to me, but Gideon wasn't one of the characters that caught my interest since the beginning, like Aeron and Torin.
I really love him back. I had surprising insight of his thoughts, his emotions, his motivations.
I thought he was just a lying sexy piece of ass. But he is surprisingly candic and he has some really rigid morals too.
I was truly surprised with him.
His and Scarlet's story was wonderfully dramatic and full of angst and there were times I just thought I would explode with the amount of emotion I felt.
I just knew I was in for a wild ride when Scarlet told Gideon that the words he had tattoed on his back, 'To part is to die', were something he used to say to his wife, meaning her.
I felt so sorry for Scarlet when I thought Gideon had forgotten her and then, even more sorry when I found out the story of her life. She suffered so much, at the hands of her own family no less. poor woman!
But I was truly devastated when she spoke of
Spoiler
Steel, her son with Gideon. Gosh, the scene when she shows Gideon how he was killed had me in tears. And I literally cried my eyes out when Steel said something in the lines of "Kill me. I'm nothing. No one."Good Lord, the pain! I don't think I would have survided if that had happened to me. And then finding out nothing of that was real? I imagine I felt Scarlet's loss all over again. A terrible loss.
But in spite of all the suffering, she was a really strong woman and you gotta admire a strength and a will like that.
Plus, she loved Gideon since the beginning, even when she thought she hated him and you also have to admire such devotion, especially in the midst of all that anger, sorrow and regret.
And don't forget she was the only one who ever gave Gideon what he truly needed physically, due to her profound understanding of his demon.
So it's safe to say they belong together.
Now, off you go to the story of Amun, the silent watcher. ;)
