Such an endearing fantasy novel for adults. Full of real stakes but all the whimsy and real cultural elements of Scottish lore. Loved this story can’t wait to finish the duology

I LOVEEE this book like it’s literally written for me. This book is everything I love in a story I can’t wait to read the second book

"From your life came mine. I would not exist if you had been born in the east. I am but a verse inspired by your chorus, and I will follow you until the end, when the isle takes my bones and my name is nothing more than a remembrance on a headstone, next to yours."

rebecca ross i love the way you write !!! she has such a beautiful writing style, with amazing descriptions and i really felt like i was on the isle as i read the book.

also all her characters are so lovable. and the relationships between sidra & torin — watching them grow together and figure out how much they loved each other was so sweet :,) — and jack & adaira really are two blades that sharpen as they clash !!

very excited for the sequel

This book could have been my jam, it was cozy, charming, i liked the characters and didn't mind that it was slow. 4 stars and maybe something more because jack and adaira are cute.
Then the third act happened.

Who was stealing the girls? and Why?
SOME IDIOT BRATS, AND FOR SOME REALLY STUPID REASONS I'LL TELL YOU THAT!
Disappointed isn't the right word, I was appalled.

I see a lot of people complaining about how boring this is and not enough mentioning that the reasons the whole plot is even happening is because the people of Cadence drink stupid juice by the gallons. Everyone, in the east, in the west and wherever the folks dwell too.
And after all the dumb revelation (and even dumber reactions! no seriusly, by the end 80% of the Tamerlaines come off as such assholes!) I realized that half of the storylines I was happily following were utterly useless, and the autor had me running in circles for 400 pages!

DID NOT FINISH

This book is not for me. Little girls missing is one thing, but little girls being kidnapped in the night by a violent man is something else entirely. As the mom of a little girl, I could not finish

I’m on a mission to read every Rebecca Ross book out there, and it seems I’ve struck gold with this mission of mine. This author knows how to make me cry with every book she writes, at this point you can call me a masochist.
