I'm still not a huge fan of short story collections. I appreciated that Washington used the same characters throughout which created a thread that ran through the stories, but I'm not sure why this is better than a novel would have been. I think that the short length of the stories and bumping around time just made things feel disjointed, rather than more powerful.
