This is probably one of the easiest five stars I’ve ever given! I absolutely adore the story, the main characters, and just how real all of their struggles felt. Jiang Cheng and Gu Fei are some of the most realistically written characters I’ve ever read about—the way they resist asking each other for help yet are constantly drawn together feels so natural.
And young Gu Miao is my absolute favorite! I felt so much sadness when she was struggling, and her relationship with her brother is so beautiful. I also loved how quickly she warmed to Jiang Cheng—it was incredibly wholesome, and although she never speaks a lot, I loved every moment of their interactions.
The only downside is I now have to wait for vol 2!

What's more than five stars? This book is precious. I don't often read contemporary romance but I'm getting into danmei and this one was just. So. Lovely. Damaged young men who feel real, with backstories we know and secrets we don't. Side characters who were alive on the page even when I mixed up names. The end made me so happy. Just such a good, pure, sweet start to a romance.
