I picked this up at the bookstore expecting it to be a lighthearted slice of life read. It was not, but it was so much better for that reason. This is a story of grief, healing from trauma, coming of age, found family, and new beginnings. I absolutely fell in love with the characters and their flaws. The art on the cover and inside the actual novel was beautiful and my version also came with stickers, a bookmark, a notebook, and some other special prints. I am so glad I found this story and I eagerly await the second one!

i really liked this! it was my first contemporary danmei and full of surprises. i had some issues with the pacing at times and moments i didn’t care for that much but i feel i may like the next volume more we will see.

this is exceptionally slow burn, and i actually really did enjoy the storyline outside of the romance. it is very tense and dark but i love the themes that were explored (in fact, i wish they were explored more). to my knowledge, these things just take a lot more time to flesh out in a danmei series (and i’m high anticipating book 2 this year!) i thought it was very sweet at the end that jiang cheng finally realized his feelings for gu fei. and kissed him on the cheek too ahhhh. i do wish there was more to it but i am not mad at what we did get
