As crazy as the premise is, Brubaker and company really make this work.

This books has got me totally HOOKED on Bucky/The Winter Soldier, because he managed to cram so much history and backstory into Bucky's story that it left me completely shocked. I LOVE this book and it has given me a new appreciation for the character of Bucky, since I always believed him to be fairly cheesy. But the way that Brubaker has fleshed him out has worked wonders for the character. I can only dream and hope that this book will be made into a movie sometime. The Winter Soldier is fantastic. Great book.

Mark's been after me to read this for a while so I finally caved. Really good stuff and considering that it's the basis for the new Cap movie, I'm extra excited now. I've never read a Captain America comic in my life and I followed what was happening really easy. There's a handful of well-placed and informative flashbacks although honestly, even if you've only seen the first Cap movie, when it comes to this storyline, you'd probably be fine. There were a couple of action sequences that I thought were a little confusing to follow but they were probably balanced out by the gorgeous two-page spread where the Winter Soldier's memories finally come back. I'll definitely read more of this run on Marvel Unlimited.

Definitely one the best Marvel books I have EVER READ. Just finished it again (for what, the 3rd time? 4th?) and it does not fail to blow me away like the first time. Such a richly-layered storyline and a surprise plot that comes out of nowhere to punch you right in your "I Thought I Knew Everything About Comics" button.
Brubaker's writing and Epting's pencils have never looked better. Full credit is due to the artistic additions of John Paul Leon and Michael Lark, whose work does not seem out of place at all, which is what you expect from a great collection. Brubaker writes Steve Rogers and rewrites his history with all the panache and sly misdirection of an author who's had this planned years in advance.
Very rarely will you read a 14-issue (well, 13 technically) story that has no sub-par moments whatsoever.
My #1 regular series trade of all-time.

I think this is about as good as it gets. Granted, Ed Brubaker could write greeting cards and I'd give them at least 3 stars, but still . . . .

Brubaker and Epting are wonderful storytellers and they do an excellent job of telling what is essentially the set-up for their longer run on the series.
