One of the best conclusions of a series that I have ever read. It was worth the 6 years that I waited to read it. I have had so much going on the last few weeks, but this series allowed me to comfortably escape that and allowed me the space to enjoy reading again. Thank you, Kazu Kibushi, for such an amazing story that I was able to grow up with.

I have been waiting for this book for several years, and honestly this was a very disappointing end to the Amulet series. I loved the adventure and the characters of the first books, but I felt the story got progressively lost with each book. With this final book, I felt the main characters, Emily especially, became far to philosophical and profound in their thinking then the characters would believably be. I am still glad to have an end to the Amulet series, and it wasn't terrible, but I was rather dissatisfied overall.

For a final book in the series, this missed the mark for me as it just didn't wrap up in a satisfying way. The main plot line I enjoyed was prince Trellis, who took the unconventional choice in this book to not take up the throne, which I actually really appreciated as it felt like it fit his character. However, generally the other established characters were a bit let down - Vigo especially, but also Navin's parts in the past few volumes have been mostly doing cool tricks in mecha, on bikes, skis etc. There was too much focus on recently introduced characters - it was a very weird choice to have a new guardian council brought in this volume get to be heroes and save the day. In terms of plot, the main threat was wrapped up quite early in the volume and then a lot of pages were given to taking huge risks by rushing things that might be satisfying but ultimately didn't need to be done without more thought and planning (the landing of Cielis!). The plot conclusion to the shadows was also more confusing than needed - I was quite thrown off by the introduction of the robots and never sure how they fit in along with ikol's relationship to the shadows. The involvement of Silas raised more questions than it answered. If there were more volumes to wrap things up after this I'd have felt more positively towards it (although I still think it would be my least favourite), but I just don't think it did it's job as a series ending. It was fun while I was reading it (and with lovely art as always), but fell apart the moment I started to think about it.

The art was still beautiful but the story left me unsatisfied. This final volume was both so quick and seemed in a rush to wrap everything up while still introducing more stories and characters.
