I forgot to write a review when I read this book. I originally gave it three stars, but I can remember that I was not so impressed so I took away one of the original stars and brought my rating down to two. It felt like a rush job or a "I don't want to do this series any more so I will wrap up everything as quickly as possible" job. Basically, I was disappointed. The illustrations were still great, but the storyline was mediocre.

Read with my almost-eight-year-olds who say they really liked it (though it seemed like their interest had been waning since the last volume). The art in the final volume of Amulet is beautiful, as it has been in all of the previous volumes. The story, honestly, felt a bit rushed, and there were quite a number of plot points that I didn't quite understand. I have a lot of questions about what Ikol and the shadows actually are, why Silas created them, how Emily got control of Ikol last volume and this one, and what happened with Vigo at the end of this volume and why. And there were SO. MANY. characters to keep track of, with at least 10 new ones being introduced in this volume alone. Perhaps if the number of characters had been kept down the plot could have been more streamlined and easier to understand? I don't mean to sound really negative about this book. I actually did like it, and the theme of working through difficult times and coming out the other end was very powerful.

After waiting all this time for the conclusion to this series, this was a total letdown. Whatever happened to Navin's story arc that pretty much got pushed to the side? Also, why introduce the four new stonekeepers and not give any depth to their characters? Those four kids could've been interesting characters, but they were shoehorned into the last sliver of the book to wrap it up quickly. I'm really bummed because I loved the start of this series and was really looking forward to this book.
