This book was too much. There was little descriptions and little meat on everything. The most fleshed out parts were a handful of chapters that amounted to show how someone acquired something but literally went nowhere. The book has way too many characters and there were times when I started a chapter and had to think "have we met?"
Some people were introduced and killed in the same chapter. Like why bother?
Severely disappointed in the lack of witch hunting, fighting, demons, etc. Overall it felt like the author had too many ideas and characters in one book and none of them fleshed out or amounted to anything.
The most obvious twist that Rabbit wasn't human was obvious from the constant hunting at her eyes very early on and when one of the Rose figues it out at the 80% of the book, I was like how have you not figured something was off by now. You looked at that child and traveled with them for a while. Like how????
The Sadie and Rabbit mother thing felt like it came out of nowhere.
Like they killed the bad guy at the end and he turned into toads but did they get them all?
So many things in this book has me wondering if I missed a chapter or several pages but nope, things just start and stop randomly. I wish there was more exploration into thingsespecially the undead ghost world
Anywho..... I wouldn't recommend it. I didn't enjoy it just wanted to see how it ended after starting it. If you choose to read it, good luck and may it make sense to you.
That being said, this generally isn't my type of book but if you are considering it, definitely read the sample and see if it grips you.
Scare factor: 2/5 if you're a bit qeasy but if you like gripping horror this is a 1/5
Really feel like I would have loved this and rated it 4 or 4.5/5 as a visual piece of media vs reading it to be 100% honest. Because the lack of descriptions coupled and the enormous amount of characters to follow is the only thing that really made this a hard read but all of it seemed easier to sell with a visual.
Edit: found out after talking with people who read the physical book that the kindle/ebook version doesn't make the character switches within the same chapter obvious by making the first letter of the sentence larger.

I love the mix of western tropes with horror, it was a lot of fun. The author does a good job of building momentum with the main group of characters, while occasionally stepping into a side character whose role we are not sure of, giving us a glimpse of what is to come. Also, I appreciate when the author doesn't waste time trying to explain where the magic comes from. This is the western frontier, where lawlessness reigns, and we can just accept that in the chaos dark forces feel at home and magic flourishes. The plot kind of takes on an Odyssey feel, the main characters slowly plodding forward from one mystical threat to another.

I really loved this! An Odysseian, western-horror that very much reminded me of all the best parts of BETWEEN TWO FIRES by Christopher Buehlman. Lovable characters you could get behind, despite (and even because of) their flaws . A really terrifying, powerful, and yet vulnerable morally gray witch character who was very well drawn. Great horror set pieces, exciting gun battles, swinging saloon doors, three fingers of whiskey, and some of the best ghosts I’ve read in a long time. When this book went western, it went guns blazing. When it went horror, it went hard. But perhaps best of all was the voice in which Grecian writes this tale - fantastic! I will definitely go on to read the sequel soon.

Fantasy-horror-western, super unique and a very fun read for spooky season. There'll be a sequel which I'll definitely pick up when it's out!
