I never read the first book. Was an exciting and interesting start. The sequel was not like the others I have requested, which barely explained anything in the story.

A strong-hearted girl and a call to environmental awareness too. Definitely something the little me would have loved.

Wow. This was full of so many twists and turns. The pace of it was much faster, and the ending packs a punch. I’m definitely wondering if there will be another book in this series.

Satisfying continuation of the Willia series. I like how Willa really reflects on her choices and how they shaped what happened after.

I have loved everything that Robert Beatty has written.

Being from the Smoky Mountains, Willa's story has been close to my heart. I loved the first one and I think I liked the setting of this one more. And the idea that the people behind the Great Smoky Mountains National Park knew Faeran creatures!

Since it's historical fiction fantasy, I can't expect it to be 100% factual, but I was a little upset with the main plot twist. It felt a little too convenient and unbelievable. However, I love that character and so it was kind of okay.

The ending is what solidified my thoughts. It was rushed and while it definitely has an open end with a few characters, it shuts off one character's story entirely. Or so I think. But it would feel a little strange if there's another book with that character in it.

Overall great story, love the landmarks like Clingman's Dome, Asheville, Cades Cove, mentioning Knoxville (where I'm from!). Definitely makes the story more personal for me!

I liked this book for the most part. It had a very nice tone, one with a good mix of whimsical and dark. However, I wasn't as big of a fan of the plot. It had many merits, and I enjoyed it, but I still had some issues with it. The story wasn't as good this time around. It just didn't have that certain spark. In particular, it got very weird towards the last bit of the story. It was just a bunch of very rushed events happening together. I feel that there were plenty of opportunities to resolve the conflicts and end the story in a tied-up, neater way. Many of the events didn't need to happen (I'm looking at you, ending). However, at the same time, there were plenty of things that I liked. Like I said before, I enjoyed the tone of the book. It managed to be more on the dark-side, but had as many heartwarming and light moments and aspects as well. For example, I loved the relationship Willa has with her family, both new and old. That's something I especially love about this series: it uses the found family trope perfectly. Another part I liked was the characters. I liked their personalities, and how fleshed out they were here. They have so much more to them than I originally thought, and I loved them all the way through. To wrap it up, I enjoyed this story, despite the issues I had with with it.

I really enjoyed this book! I thought it was so well written and a great sequel to Willa of the Wood.

The author has such a whimsical writing style and that translates to such a beautifully written story of Willa finding her way in the world. She’s carving her own path and finding out what it truly means to have a family and do the right thing, even when things get hard.

Overall, if you’re looking for a fun, whimsical, and touching story, I highly recommend Willa of Dark Hollow and Will of the Wood! ✨
