Another hard one to rate. There is a lot of 5 star content in here, but it was probably longer than it needed to be and a few times he concluded things that didn't seem to be backed up by the text (Sermon on the Mount). Mixed bag, but more good stuff than not.

Beautiful. Compelling. Formative. Starting in Genesis and running through Revelation, Willard presents the Good News of Jesus in a fresh way, peeling back religious language and making plain the “Sermon on the Hill” through proper exegesis. He takes Jesus seriously for who He is, the most intelligent man to ever live, and therefore shows that the way to new life can only come through the God-man himself. The wonder and glory.

This book helped me recognize that I've been a "consumer Christian" and inspired me to do the work required to really dig in and transform how I am inside rather than focusing on "doing good works" focus on getting rid of pent-up anger, bitterness, envy, etc. so that I can have a truly loving heart. It inspires you to take a good, hard, raw, honest look at yourself and also outlines a path that can be followed to start the transformation if you decide you want to grow in your relationship with God.

Here was my first experience with Willard, and it was dense, wonderful, and paradigm-shifting. I wish I could read this book 100x. His wisdom and insight would take that many examinations to fully grasp.

This covers so much I find it hard to review the entire book. Parts of it were great, parts rubbed me the wrong way. Very good overall, just not quite 5* because I had a few things I didn't like.

This is a must-re-read every year or so. Willard's wisdom and insight into spiritual life is refreshing and challenging.

There are some works, upon finishing them, that you know would yield great benefit and even more riches if you immediately began to reread them. Generally these are the books that have stood the test of time. The Scriptures, the works of early theology, the great literature of the nineteenth century.
The Divine Conspiracy has yet to face the rigors of passing centuries, but there can be little doubt of the riches it holds. Willard speaks of the fundamental spirituality of the Christian life in such a sensible and common sense way so as to make clear the simplicity and logic of following Jesus. Yet for all its sensibility, Willard also maintains an ability to inspire his reader to the very adoration of the Trinitarian God that is necessary for the dedication of one's life to that following.
A truly remarkable work that, if one allows it, offers a space for the Spirit to shape and mold the reader.
