So interesting to read about the family that contributed to the research of schizophrenia.

This book thoroughly engaged me and I finished it in five days. It got me back in the reading spirit and for that I am grateful.
The premise of this book was very interesting, in a family of 12 kids, 6 are diagnosed with schizophrenia, and they end up helping contribute to the research of modern day treatment.
However the book is written in a way that made the source material difficult to separate from the author’s point of view. Opinions of people are stated as fact and not necessarily notes as “Mary recalled in our interviews”….basically bias is difficult to identify.
It’s also a very dark and sad book, as you might imagine. Not sure I’d recommend this book to someone else.

I've never read anything that was equal parts fascinating, heart breaking, and also educational. I'm in awe of how evolved, compassionate, vulnerable, and brave this family is for sharing their story, particularly Lindsay. This true story is a testament to the seriousness of mental illness and the nuance and varieties of treatments for them and what can happen to those who are suffering if they don't get the help they need. This is a beautiful story of forgiveness and psychoeducation.
