This book confirms, I’m definitely more into the emotional connection in romance reading - I enjoyed Cole and Ren (and their online alter egos unbeknownst to each other) getting to know each other over any/all of the many “sexy times.” I found it well done how the two keep casually hooking up, and yet don’t connect the dots to realize that their “no-strings hook-up” is also the person with whom they are making a serious emotional connection with on a dating app where neither shows their face but all their hearts. It’s definitely a feel-good romance, with the dramatic tension coming mostly from their own insecurities, which they satisfactory find ways to work through and which keep the reader engaged to see just how they will manage. There are also some good laughs in it, mostly out of snarky comments and teasing, two examples of which are at the end of this review. All in all, it kept me reading, long after I realized this wasn’t really the type of story I had a desire to read, to finish it and the bonus short the author offers through a link at the end. For me personally, it’s 2 stars, though I’d say more objectively it’s probably 3 stars. While I won’t be continuing the series as it wasn’t really my cup of tea, it might be yours.
A word for the typos, as I didn’t actually mark them as I would normally: there weren’t that many, though I did notice a small uptick in them in the last quarter of the book or so (maybe..around 25-30 total?).
Favorite laughs:
“I don’t care how old you are, I’m still your mother, and I can still wash your mouth out with soap.” - location 2749
“Hey, mom and dad [sic], guess what?” I say, trying to salvage the situation. “I have a boyfriend.”
“Shock,” my mother says dramatically.
“This is brand new information,” my dad deadpans. Gotta love my parents. - location 2751

4⭐️
Ren is simultaneously hooking up with his hot contractor, and texting a cool guy on a dating app. He’s just come out of a 5 year relationship, and feels like he’s on the rebound. Flip to Cole: the sexy contractor who, despite not being into serious relationships, is finally considering it with Ren.
This book is a great, low-stakes, feel-good, quick romance read. You’ll find:
-MCs that are in their 30s and 40s
-Mistaken/hidden identities
-lots of 🌶️
-cute nicknames
-supportive partners
I’m not running to read book 2, but it is definitely a solid book! I will pick up the second book when I need a good palate cleanser between heavier reads.

“I think it was more like a gay, X-rated version of You’ve Got Mail.”
sometimes you just need a mindless, unserious, easy read and it's a fun time. this was not one of those times! it was trying to be and i can see why it would work for some people, but i was just so bored and it was nearly a DNF very early on. i forced myself to finish it and i shouldn't have.
most of it just consisted of me cringing and trying not to roll my eyes. i'm trying to escape reality, not be reminded of what most bland mediocre guys sound like in general conversation.
even the you've got mail trope fell flat and didn't save this for me.
