This follows Sean Bell & Zenny Iverson. Sean is about money & sex. Zenny is Sean's best friends' little sister.
I liked this book WAY better than the first one, “Priest”.
age gap/fake dating/best friend’s little sister/millionaire x novice nun
Sean Bell (36). Sinner. a man fighting his own demons and trying hard to find meaning and trust in a relationship and with himself.
Zenny (21). Angel. sweet, innocent, college girl, trying to figure out what she should do with her life, and wanting relationship experience.
“God, the fucking irony of a sinner loving a nun.”
this book is the perfect mix of holy and sacrilege. spirituality through heartbreak, loss, grief, anger, and lust; how it’s ok to crave all of these feelings, fully and wholeheartedly. it also touched on other important topics, like mental health and racism.
I fucking love chapter 20, because fuck racism. this book is about a biracial couple, and i’m glad it wasn’t danced around, like there aren’t actual issues that arise in biracial relationships. when most people think about racism, their mind often goes to racial slurs/ hate crimes; but there are other, less obvious, destructive forms of racism, structural and systemic, that are often invisible—at least to those who aren’t affected by it. (end of mini rant)
I think I officially fell in love with Sean Bell the moment he bought satin sheets for Zenny. it’s the small things that matter the most. that one conversation, a few chapters before, about her needing a satin pillowcase for her hair; he went out of his way to buy a whole new bed set… (cries happy black girl tears)
"I can't get angry. If I get angry, then I'm the Angry Black Woman. If I admit to having my feelings hurt, then I'm being too sensitive. If I ask for people to treat me thought-fully, then I'm being aggressive. If I joke back, then I'm being impertinent or sassy. If I cry, then I'm hyperemotional. If don't react at all, I'm intimidating or cold. Do you see? There's not a way I can react where I win. I can't win." so real.

Sometimes you’re not necessarily there for the plot okay. Haha! But I think overall I enjoyed this one more than Priest. There was a little bit of heavy-handedness with race in one scene, but I appreciated seeing micro-agressions being discussed.

the age gap was personally off putting. i intend to keep series going otherwise this book would’ve been DNF’d. the book reads very cringy and gives off a white savior complex.

2.5 stars?
Veg…….. vegetable oil?
Was pretty okay. Probably won’t think about it again. Remind me that this type of age gap doesn’t really work for me.
