This book is for those who appreciate the darkest side of the space fantasy genre. More like creatures coming to earth expecting a good response. But us humans do what we always do.

There's probably a half decent 200-page novel in this but as it stands it's almost too boring to finish. Someone badly needs to edit King.

let me just preface this by saying that i love stephen king. he could write a recipe for roadkill marinated in asswater and broiled to perfection on a car engine and i would swoon at the poetics of his writing and in all likelihood hump his leg.

however.

weasels that bust out of your ass and leave blood everywhere is a conceit that was done before, and much better, and with less trauma on the colon. its called alien and aliens (and yes, im ignoring the latter two films because they suck. suck. SUCK.). those two films do what king is unable to do with this novel: maintain tension. scare people. be good.

and duddits? really? as much as i wanted to feel sorry for and love duddits, i just really couldnt do it. even though the four boys/men were assholes to him eventually and i know that was supposed to make me feel connected to him and wonder at the marvel of childhood innocence being connected to spiritual powers, duddits just did not do it for me.

i do give one star simply because kings portrayal of the boys friendship, before adulthood comes and screws them all up (hello, remnants of "the body," no?) is per usual, very gracefully and realistically done.

also, i needed something to tide me over before his return with liseys story and duma key.

I'm usually not a fan of aliens and that sort of thing. This book was an exception to that rule. I argue that it goes more into psychology than aliens in the first place. The movie was good too, mainly for cute boys but...hey.

I adore these characters.

This book could have used half the words and told the same story.

If you're a fan of sci-fi and aliens, this book would definitely be a good catch. Although compared to the first book that I've read from King (Bag of Bones), I'd say that this one was a little dragging. Maybe because I'm not really into aliens, but there's something lacking from this book at all. I spent more than a month to actually finish the book, not because it's long, but because I don't find the willingness to finish it at all.

Also, I agree with most of the people saying that King should've stick with his first title, "Cancer", since the theme of the whole book is fitting to it.

King has done it again. Aliens, government conspiracies, psychic and mystical beings, what more could a reader want? This is definitely one of King's more far-fetched novels, but it feels extremely realistic in the way characters and events are portrayed. The story is told from multiple perspectives, as many King novels are, so if you are not a fan of that, steer clear of this guy. However, the characters are easy enough to distinguish from one another, and it is worth the extra effort to read.
