Overall, I liked this book and it did have some good advice on feedback -- giving and receiving.

When they look at what can go wrong with feedback, they broadly break it down into content, relationship, and identity.

Under the 'content' category, the first chapters had some really good insights about different types of feedback:

- coaching
- evaluation
- affirmation

Many problems come when there are mismatches around this area, and I think this book offered some very good and very unique insights here.

The other two general categories ('relationship' and 'identity') were also ok, but there are many other books out there that cover these areas better, more exhaustively and in much more detail. If you've never dug into those areas of literature before, though, this does give an ok view of them.

Great book - a little repetitive, but that might have been a good thing. I definitely feel more open to receiving feedback - both formal & informal.

This book is life changing! Such excellent advice about how to receive feedback and a little bit on how to give it.

I’m an Alita, someone who is very sensitive to feedback, and this book taught me how to take it better and apply it.

One of my biggest takeaways is “trying feedback on for size”. So someone gave you feedback you think is just plain wrong or you disagree with? Try it anyway! What do you have to lose? If it doesn’t work, you can go back to what you were doing before.

GREAT read. Very informative and chocked with tons of useful suggestions, some of which I've already been putting into practice.

Wow. I need to reread this like five or six times, because there's so much good information in here. Definitely the best self-help book I've ever read, and while it was definitely self-incriminating in places, at least it was objective about it and offered ways to deal with the way I am and adjust accordingly.

The book covers the reasons feedback goes awry, as well as strategies to give and receive feedback more effectively. I found it very helpful and added some insights to both my own style as well as appreciating how others operate. My criticism of the book is that it's a bit long and repetitive in places.

A surprisingly detailed book on receiving feedback well

The book covers the many aspects of receiving feedback well with elaborate detail. I want to say “complete” detail, but I don’t know what I don’t know.

Starting with the three triggers we deal with in receiving feedback, the book dives deep into various perspectives around the triggers related to the truth we believe, our relationships, and how we identify ourselves. Each of these aspects are illustrated brilliantly, and hilariously, with clear examples. It is tempting to build a list of all the lists contained in this book (I’m sure someone has already done this).

Finally, this is one of the books that tells you what you already know and it is all the more poignant for it.

This is a must read for anyone who wants to grow in any aspect of their life and for those who help others grow. I just finished it and I want to read it again. So many specific ideas about feedback.
