Definitely not engaging until way too far into the book and I didn't become attached to any characters. In fact, I just kept wishing more would die so the whole thing could just be over. I really did not enjoy this book.

is was quite interesting i liked the way the point of views were written too .

The thing I loved most about this book was how quick-paced it was. I'm normally someone who craves details, but the short chapters and fast actions fit with the nature of the book. So it really worked! I was also surprised how much I didn't mind the changing point of views. When I saw how many characters there were I got concerned I'd be confused, but overall I could point out who each person was (not always their tribe) and what trials they'd gone through within the story.

There were two things that bothered me, though. First, since we were introduced to so many people, it was hard forming a full connection with most of them. I don't know if that was the point? But I didn't like not caring whether something good or bad happened to someone. Second, I felt some of the deaths were not well done. Not giving away who died, but I just thought there wasn't a whole lot of thought given to some of them. these are supposed to be trained killers and one of them dies in the stupidest way possible despite all of the training. There were then two other characters who had a lot of character development, and then it seemed to amount to nothing. I just wish we could have seen these two progress more and have a more noble death. One person in particular I felt did not deserve the death given to this person, because they deserved something grander. I know that doesn't make a lot of sense since I'm trying to give anything away, but trust me when I say that this person deserves better.

I'm definitely moving on to book two! I'm sad that the competition with the book is done because I would have loved to figure out the puzzles, but I'm still reading on because I'm pretty invested.

SO GOOD

IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THIS BOOK THEN READ IT..! So good..!!

An interesting story which kept me reading but didn't enchant me. As it is the first book in a series I was left thinking I would probably read the next one... at some point but didn't find myself hungry for the next one straight away.

I did enjoy the descriptive writing which at times made me cringe due to the gore or create mental pictures of what the characters were seeing.

I do wonder how the storyline has been stretched into multiple books as it was just beginning to feel a bit repetitive toward the end.

If you're looking for a super-fast paced book, this is it. I saw someone say this was the mixture of Amazing Race (reality TV show) and The Hunger Games and it's honestly a decent interpretation. It doesn't really compare directly to The Hunger Games like I've seen people say, but 12 kids competing for a prize and killing each other is really the only comparison. The amount of character POVs was a little overwhelming at first, but they were all so different it was really interesting. I can't wait to read the next one.
