Honestly, i'm not really one to give up on a book, and i didn't with this one, but man did i want to. Right when i started i could tell what was going to happen. It was a very predictable and overused plot. I'm definitely not going to finish this series and i'm kinda bummed about that.
Spoilers ahead...
So. This was an interesting read. It's by no means an unforgettable book or a great one. It has a lot of flaws amongst which I will highlight only the main ones, which annoyed me the most.
First of all the writing sometimes can be soo cringy. I was literally tempted to DNF at the very first two pages of the story. It was just so ridiculous, self-important and cringe inducing : everything from the little phrases "what will be will be" to the over seriousness ugh. Ughhh. Well at least it gets better later on.
Then we have the characters. Way too many of them with constantly switching povs with makes it hard to get attached to any of them. I will have to mention the stereotypes though. Damn was it hard to read. The all american Sarah, the typical japanese Chiyoko with her shuriken and ninja ways, the scrawny hacker chinese who was, of course, driven to extremes by his parents (and of course only knows rudimentary english with a pronounced accent although he is a damn player training his whole life who dhould probably have learnt that but you know, dtereotypes)... Just no please.
Then I have to say these characters are just plain unlikable. Literally the only characters I liked or the ones which were interesting were all killed off (Kala, Chiyoko, An and Chris). Seriously? You kill Chiyoko??? I mean I really did not see that one coming but I personally think it was a wrong move. Jago and Sarah are your typical MCs, totally hollow and vapid. Just a copy of all MCs in the history of MCs. Uninteresting. Then the other characters are either underdeveloped, crazy violent or killed off.
Well although I did appreciate the book, I dont know if I'll be reading the next one because there is no character am interested in anymore. I mean *shrugs* not gonna read about Sarah and Jago until they find a way to win together that's for sure. Only other person I still cared about at the end of the book was Shari but then the last chapter basically promises us her death in the next book... Oh well.
Still for all it's flaws this books succeeds in remaining fast paced, incredibly engrossing and addictive. I breezed through it.
But the characters are just a no. So I don't know about continuing this series...

So I’ve seen a lot of people call it a Hunger Games rip off, and I don’t think that’s the most accurate description of the book. There are definitely similarities between the two but Hunger Games is more “Post-apocalyptic dystopian society” whereas Endgame is like “The apocalypse is happening right this instant”
Anyways on to my actual thoughts on the book:
Anyways on to my actual thoughts on the book:
- For starters the world building is one of the most confusing parts of the book. The majority of the book doesn’t really make much sense, but it’s even more confusing when all 12 Players have different names and beliefs surrounding the makers of the Game. It made it hard to follow along.
- Speaking of the 12 Players, I liked how each Player has a different reason and/or method to playing the Game. By far the strongest part of the book was the characters interaction with other characters.
Overall I’m still confused about what I just read, but I enjoyed the characters enough to begin reading the sequel
I HATE repetitive things. I HATE repetitive things. I hate repetitive things. If all the repetitive sentences in this book were removed, It'd be half as long. don't think it'd help though. I found it super boring and I pretty much just skimmed the last 25% to end my misery. i wouldn't have gone past about 20% if I didn't need to read this book for two challenges.
5/5 Stars. I put off reading this book for exactly a year this month, but when I pulled it from my TBR jar I got excited, AND IT WAS AMAZING. A lot of people compare it to the hunger games, but personally I enjoyed it a lot more.
SPOILERS below.
I was shocked when Marcus died because he was so into it.
Kalas death was very predictable, but I did feel bad.
Christopher's death did surprise me, only because I thought he was going to win in the end and get Sarah back.
Ans death made me the most happy, but it sucks under the circumstances.
Chiyokos death was the worst for me because I LOVED HER! She shouldn't have died because she had so much potential. Ugh.
I don't really like any of the boys who are still alive... 2 of the four are crazy, one is a douche, and one is boring.
I like all four girls though.
The ending with Shari saying her daughter was the next key SHOOK me.
My favorite is Aisling.
This review is more of a personal thing, so I can look back on it.
TBR jar book #3.

Very easy to read book. Many lovely characters, but also a couple that I don't particularly like. It balances each other which makes you want to keep reading. Sometimes the characters do things that don't really seem smart, so hopefully in the next book characters will develop more and be smarter. Some endings really intrigued me and I'm positive the next book will be better and with more action. hopefully I can start reading it tomorrow. And hopefully the annoying characters are first to go. but knowing my luck that probably isn't going to happen.
Took me a while, but I finally finished it! I love the character development and storyline, but finishing this book made me extremely curious, yet extremely anxious and now so extremely nihilistic that I can't even see the world properly anymore
It took me so long to finish. It is not my fav book ever but not that bad. I thought I would like it more but after some chapters passed I didn’t feel like going on so I stopped reading it but then I remembered it and started againit is not bad. I would like a bit more togetherness I feel like it was kind of all over the place but don’t hate it.
Was this book similar to The Hunger Games series? Yes. You can’t deny it. But this book was still a page turner and kept me engaged throughout the book, to the point where I had to order the next one in the series. Worth the read.
