The ironies in this book are funny. The author gives a nod to the books that inspired the story in little ways that add to the story changing from a badly written one to a funny one.
It is Jaws on steroids. A fast thrill ride with some true science mixed in. Do not read this book with a serious frame of mind. Read it with the knowledge of its predecessors.

I watched the movie (that was LOOSELY) based on this book first. While I love Jason Statham (because come on the man is HOT!) I was not a fan of the movie. This book, however, was really good. Is it awful of me to love the outcome of Maggie? The woman was a bitch and ruthless. I would have to say the book is a bit more believable than the movie. I love sharks and I feel they really get a bad rap. Much like Pitbulls do. I am excited to read more of Mr. Alten's books. The book was non-stop action until the end. Loved it!

Is it fun? Yes

Did I enjoy the scientific descriptions? Yes

Was it action packed? Sure

Slightly different from the movie (the wife’s a pain in here) but overall an easy breezy read (or listen, as I did)

You get Meg POV. Worth it for that lone.

I read this book back when it was originally released (I was maybe 15) and remembered liking it enough to read the sequel. Tried re reading after the movie came out... ugh.

I could do without the encyclopedic spouting of underwater wildlife facts, but I could tolerate that. I could not deal with any female characters being introduced by their breasts... most memorably as “two swollen grapefruits” even if they are in there for five seconds, must describe them by their breasts and whether they could be a model. I made it about halfway through and gave up.

An example of the movie being better than the subject material. And the movie wasn’t awesome, but I didn’t cringe at the dialogue.

This book was a delight. If you like all those shark movies, such as Jaws, then this book is for you.

Surprisingly it wasn't cheesy, and was quite an enjoyable read.

There are a few absurdities, but with this kind of novel, it should be expected.

Awful. Ridiculous. Terrible. Fucking loved it!!

I’ve been sick and miserable and completely disinterested on reading this last week and I took solace in my comfort zone: monster movies. The Meg was, of course, one of these comfort flicks and for the first time I noticed it was based on a book. When I discovered there was indeed a series of books AND that they were cheap in iBooks, well, I just had to do it you see. And I am so glad I did.

Truthfully this book is probably more a 3 star, maybe even less, if we’re assessing it on quality. The writing isn’t great, the dialogue corny and stilted, the plot is more stretched than Elastagirl. But it has the it factor you need when you’re (a) sick and (b) depressed. It was so funny and ridiculous and stupid and I just loved it.

If you decide to read this - and frankly I think you should - I suggest doing what I did not and making up a drinking game. 1 shot for every time “ampullae of lorenzini” is written (on second thought don’t you might die).
