I can’t decide whether to give up on this series or not. Maybe it’s my fault for reading them out of order, or the fact that some are grabbing me and some aren’t. So far, Poor Unfortunate Soul and this one have just not grabbed me and I’m giving up on them.
But the authors who are dedicating themselves to this fan fiction just haven’t got the magic there. They’re changing storylines, which if you’re a lover of the films, you will really not appreciate.
I’m all for a decent back story, but Serena Valentino just hadn’t found the intrigue there. It’s lacklustre and ill-thoughtout, with paragraphs of unnecessary description and boring conversations from Gothel and her sisters. I struggled through the first 100 or so pages, remembering that the previous one I’d read, As Old As Time, was actually appealing and kept you reading. There was absolutely nothing that I could find that could keep me reading. And I’m hating myself for hating on these books. They have gorgeous covers, but I honestly would not recommend this one. There are other better ones in the Twisted and Villians series (As Old As Time, Fairest Of Them All).
Will I keep buying them? I probably will, just to see if one finally grabs me, spins the story I thought I knew on its head and leaves me breathless after reading. So far, none of them have made it above three stars.

Interesting twist to a familiar Disney princess story. I read it out of order, but I didn’t feel like I was missing pieces from earlier books until the very end. Going back to read them all.
