Such a dark view but wonderfully creative insight on Gothel before Rapunzel came into the picture! Horrifying turned delightful, which is an oxymoron, but you’ll see! You’ll see!

Unfortunately, this book is trying to be too smart. There are some interesting elements but everything is laid out so starkly with no subtlety that it just never really captivates. It’s the very essence of telling instead of showing. I get no sense of characters growing or changing other than explicit telling of a shift in character. I realized at the end there must be some thread through the series that I missed picking up this one halfway through, but I just think it’s not super well executed.

The best out of the series I have read thus far.

I like this book so much that I read it in 5 hours and already order the first four books half way through.

I love that when it got to the part that was covered in the movie, it actually plays out the scenes from the Disney movie.

Mother Gothel was totally dealt a bad hand

And those DAMN Odd Sisters ain't shit. I felt bad for her up until she took Rapunzel. Great story though.
