I really like how they are weaving all of these villains stories together so they overlap and connect at different points.

The best book of the series so far. The Odd Sisters still play a roll but they are side characters. A wild experience but actually enjoyed the ride of this book

This story continues the tale of the three sisters as they meet, curse and defeat many of Disney’s villains. I loved Mother Gothel’s backstory it was so much richer than I’d had anticipated.
This was my favourite of the four Disney villains books that I've read. I think it is because it was mostly it's own story, something completely new. It took over 300 pages to reach the point where Gothel takes Rapunzel into the tower, so there's very little overlap with the Rapunzel tale.
Once again this is a story of the Odd sisters meddling in other people's lives that ends up creating the situation for the fairy tale we know to happen.
This story was much darker than the others, initially being set in the Dead Woods and involving a lot of killing and death, including that of children. I liked this darker take on the tale, it feels more appropriate for a villains tale and a bit more in line with the likes of the original Grimm fairy tales.

I really loved this book, and it’s my favorite of the series so far. Each new book I read in this series is better than the last, but this one was sooo good! This book is quickly becoming one of my favorites!
I loved the atmosphere and setting in the first half of the book. It had a dark and creepy vibe and I absolutely loved it! This book really helped me understand Gothel more and why she did the things she did. They weren’t all for vanity purposes!
The Odd Sisters are next! I’m not sure how I feel about them right now, so this will be very interesting!

Moderate: Death
Minor: Kidnapping, Grief, Death of parent
This one had so much potential to humanize one of the most evil and horrible Disney Vilains-I mean you root for others to fail but nobody is quite as bad as Gothel is. And this book is long compared to the others in this series- and that should be good right? Longer story=more time to develop your characters right? And it started off really good. It introduced her and her sisters, Hazel and Primrose. They are living in the Dead woods and I loved the parts talking abour various dark rituals they and her mother took part in and I loved how evil her mother was and how that helped shape Gothel into who she ended up being. I also loved Jacob, Hazel and Primrose, they are background characters but they are well developed enough to make you care about them.
But then... the middle of the story happens - and the Odd sisters appear, and they grind the story to a halt- I really feel like they weigh the story down. They make the pace slow down and they are so, so, so obnoxious you just want to punch them in the face. They are obnoxious and there is just too much of them - I prefered certain other books where they also meddled but did so in the background not ok let's take over the story completely and be front and center for several pages just being obnoxious and annoying. I honestly preferred them as hidden bad guys who meddled but did so quitely in the background and who were evil but not obnoxiously so. And it doesn't really help that the last part of the book completely removes the POV from Gothel and the perspective suddenly shifts to Rapunzel so that it just becomes really boring.
I really really wanted to love this one but I just couldn't.

This is a fun take on Mother Gothel's story. I always enjoy background stories on a good villain.
