this is soo cool!!!! It was an interesting perspective to partake in. However, there were times when it feels a bit too rushed and when everything just seems too convenient.

I loved where this story began, but low-key hated where it went and ended. I love a good origin story—especially for a good villain. This story had so much potential and it started really well, in my opinion. It was dark, a little eery, I could see where it was going, it made sense, I was here-for-it. Andddd then they brought in some unrelated characters. I was still here for it. I could see where they fit in and how it helped the story. I suspected nothing. Then we get to where the story starts trying to wrap up and tie together with the Disney movie and suddenly everything just felt disjointed and weird.
The story became more about these behind-the-scenes characters and whatever drama they've got going on instead of about the true villain and main character of the story. The ending completely changes tone and perspective from where the book began. I get they're trying to tie this origin story to the happy-go-lucky Rapunzel Disney movie but this was not the way to do it—Yes that is my strong opinion, no I will not back down.
Overall, I think I will continue to read the rest of the books in this collection because I'm curious and, like I said, love a good villain origin story, but my excitement has dwindled considerably.

Some names were so daft it was hard to take at all seriously and it all lacked some kind of purpose. I'm totally miffed by the time scale and how things all fit. Yet there are unanswered questions I want to know...
