I love all of these evil villain back stories. Valentino writes them so well and from the few I've read in the series, stays on par with the Disney writing style. The narrator was also spot on for the audiobook, very classic voice overs. The three witch sisters are so masterful lol I loved everything about them. There's something about the ability to create characters so dreadful but also impressive. Can't wait to read something else in this series!

“What in fairy wings were you thinking?!”
I loved this book. It was hard not to like Gothel in her tale of love, heartache, and grief. She was mad by mid-novel and yet you wanted more, needed more of her and the odd sisters’ antics. I loved also the references to other famous tales/works such as Blue Beard’s Castle and Sylvia Plaith’s Bell Jar as well. Very well done and a phenomenal read, I read the ebook but had the narration with it by Lucy Rayner. Rayner was a marvelous orator and her narration made me love it more. 4/5 stars

2.5/5

I enjoyed this more for the nostalgia than the writing style and the storyline. However, I know this was aimed for younger readers!! I also think that it focused too much on the Odd Sisters rather than diving more into Gothel’s character.

I loved loved loved this book. My favorite Disney movie is Tangled and when I first watched the movie, I wondered if Mother Gothel only stole Rapunzel because she was lonely. Though I was wrong about that, I was right that she didn't kidnap Rapunzel for no reason and after reading her backstory, she has complete validation to do so. This made me hate the Odd Sisters even more than I already did for ruining yet another character that could have redeemed themselves under the right circumstances. It was so sad when Gothel's sisters died and she had no one left with her. I liked how the book explained some things in the movie that kind of just happened with no explanation as to how. For example, at the end of the movie, Gothel falls out of the tower and the only thing we see left is her cloak. We are left to wonder what happened to her but the book explains that since the last of Rapunzel flower died, the person using it to stay alive grew to their real age, which for Gothel was so old that she was reduced to dust.

This was my favourite book of the set of Disney Villain books. I loved the characters (the three sisters), the setting and the way that the adventures that took place managed to link back into the Disney Rapunzel story that we know (Tangled). It was quite a dark book but that didn't put me off. I quite liked that element. It kept my interest throughout and was well written.
