I'm excited to read the next installment of Petra's adventures! Having had a slight obsession with Peter Sis and his Prague-themed picture books, as well as Philip Pullman's fantastical worlds (think Clockwork, too!) I was totally sucked in. Characters are well fleshed out, and I am already invested in finding out where the story will go next . . .

A fun and easy read, "The Cabinet of Wonders" has a nice soft magic system and a good cast of likeable (and not so likeable) characters. It deals with good and evil somewhat, mainly that you can't judge a book by its cover. I'm very excited to move on to book 2 either later today or tomorrow morning.

ehhh.

I really enjoyed this book! The characters are awesome and the unique plot twists will keep you guessing. Great read!

Best character: Astrophil

The hardcover version has a small spider on the cover. Perfect.

Pretty good kiddie fantasy, strangely reminiscent of "The Golden Compass" (spunky, intrepid preteen heroine with daddy issues; talking animal companions; helpful gypsies). I thought it was just okay, but that's probably because I'm an adult male rather than a prepubescent female, so I'm giving it four stars anyway.

A great blend of history and magic, coming together into a very believable world.
Also, I adore Astrophil. That spider and I would get along famously.
