I really enjoyed The Longing—it grabbed me from the start and didn’t let go. I loved how it breathed new life into Northumbrian folklore, giving the whole story this wild, mysterious vibe that felt totally fresh. Alice falling into the Yeavering and getting claimed by Fenrother, a grumpy yet awkwardly sweet dragon shifter, was a perfect mix of danger and charm. Honestly, if I could fall into a magical realm and have a monster declare me his fated mate, I'd sign up immediately!

Then we have Fenrother’s confusion about mating and Alice’s sharp, no-nonsense attitude which made their slow-burn so real and entertaining. It might feel like there’s some classic miscommunication trope, but really, it’s about two very different creatures figuring each other out beyond fear and instinct—and that made their connection hit harder.

The story’s full of emotional weight, trust, and consent, wrapped in steam and mythology. It’s a monster romance that feels original, charming, and honestly, just fun to read.

Big thanks to Hattie Jacks for the ARC—I’m already hooked on this world and can’t wait for more.

Overall this was a great read. The pacing was good for me once I got through the first few chapters. I found both characters to be equally enjoyable and found myself laughing out loud or flipping back the page to re-read again.  I’ve read a few of the author’s previous books and enjoyed this standalone for what it provided. The slow burn was worth the wait, I enjoyed the MMC immensely and found my heart melting for some tender moments. I think the connection between the FMC & MMC was definitely special, humorous, and fitting for the title of this book.

This was cute cozy read with some spice and a bit of action adventure and some twist

Alice is forced in to a world she doesn’t know when she is sold by her aunt to the fairy queen who plans on using Alice to control Fernrother.

Fernrother is a big, strong, broody, protective Wyrm with no filter. He has always been alone so his knowledge of human women is lacking. Everything he really knows and does comes from the text he reads, he is very child like in ways.

The dynamic between them lacked a spark but it was cute and funny at times

I hope I never read the word pizzle again
