A thoroughly good story, the twists! The turns! It took a while for me to get into it but once I did I was hooked

As always, a captivating, thought-provoking mystery by Agatha Christie! I was shocked when the actual murderer was revealed - I had absolutely no inkling of the murderer's true identity.

I'd forgotten that these books, at least some of them, are narrated by Poirot's companion Hastings. Not my favourite character. I don't hate him, but he can be so annoying and stupid. Though he has moments of being smart, too. A mixed bag, that one.

Anyway, Poirot has another case to solve. And as is usual in Christie's books, suspicion falls on pretty much everyone at one point or another.

This was a great read. I enjoyed it more than the first book, though not as much as others I've read in the series, and I found the characters to be quite interesting. I also really liked how the solving of the mystery progressed. We got the basic facts, the surprising facts, some answers, but the mystery wasn't solved at once (which is also great, by the way), but in steps. Poirot would figure out one thing but would still be unsure about others. It kept me guessing.

I wasn't a fan of the other detective character in the book because he was a douche. And Hastings is someone I have mixed feelings about. Again, he can be so stupid. But overall, the book was fun and engaging, and I especially enjoyed the second half. Definitely recommend.
