The book delivered exactly what it promised. A pleasing mystery.

For the first half, Murder in G Major was shaping up to be a great, atmospheric mystery for October. A rainy Irish setting, villagers who know everyone's business, a fish-out-of-water heroine, and a ghost? Sounds like a fun cozy, right?

Unfortunately, the second half annoyed me with its ableism

, as well as the setup for a love triangle. (I'm not fond of love triangles because they always take up far too much time and distract from more interesting plot elements. I don't want to hear about two mediocre-sounding men, I want to solve murders!)

Despite the cliffhanger, I won't be continuing the series.

I was settled in for a cozy mystery and enjoyed the laid-back nature of much of the book, but the pacing felt off and then the last quarter or so dived headfirst into some wild ableism around mental health and then it rushed the reveal and resolution to set up a cliffhanger for the next book. Just a really disappointing experience in the end.

Although I know that many cosy mysteries are lighthearted with humour, I found this one just plain silly. Talking ghosts are maybe not my thing!😃
The nod to classical compositions was a light relief.

this was not good in many ways and i regret finishing it. she is a Black woman in a village in Ireland and there is no talk of anti-Black racism lol
